Anyone bought anything from from Japan via eBay and what are the likely pitfalls ?

Like anything coming from outside the UK, biggest drawback is import fee (if it's not already included in the sale price/eBay fees). I import a lot of tools from USA and Japan (as they make the best chisels and hand planes) and it's hit and miss which companies add the import fees upfront or not. So best checking that as depending on the sale price it can be quite costly.
Other drawback can be the delivery lead times. Japan usually has a decently efficient postal service but again, it's dependent on who the carrier is. Orders I place that are Japan Post Co. are generally here within 7-10 days but some that use courier services have been 15-20 and sometimes even 30 days.
