Driver fitting, not exactly science is it

The thing with cf at the average club golfer level is that you are trying to make the bad shots less destructive, not the good ones better. For instance straightning out a slice or coping with the odd pull. We get confused about cf at our level and with cf at pro level. Yes you want the optimum flight and distance etc but not at the cost of accuracy. Did you know for example that most pro's on tour now use a shorter than standard driver, they are happy to give up some distance to find more fairways.

I actually dont think thats true at all mate. I think that getting custom fit can gain you a few extra yards and a better ball flight on your good swings by optimising your shaft and all that stuff, but no golf club in the world is going to stop you from slicing the ball into the trees if the clubface arrives at the ball 10 degrees open...

There is definitely the odd occasion where a fitting wil make a big difference to someones game. Like if some 6'4" guy whos using standard length clubs gets fitted and they adjust his loft and lie angles and all that and all of a sudden he doesnt hit every second shot fat. But the times when it actually makes a dramatic adjustment are few and far between.

I'm not saying that custom fitting isnt a good thing, quite the opposite. I would never buy a club again without having it fitted first. I just think the problem with it is that most people go in there expecting the fitting to cure theyre slice or duck hook, when in fact its more about getting the best out of your good/ok swings.
