Double yellow lines

What's the point of them. Went into town today and on one ( one way ) road there were 10 cars and one delivery van parked on double yellows. One car had just got a ticket, but the other nine didn't. Why? Because they had disabled badges in the window. Now I could have a bit of a rant about why they are able to park on them and other road users cannot. But surely double yellow lines should mean that no one parks on them. The road does warrant having DY on it but it just seemed a bit wrong to me that once a decision is taken to put yellows on, some can park on them but not others. Can someone enlighten me as to why this is the case.

All I know is that disabled can park, quite rightly, on doubles for up to 3 hours

Possibly the issue is more the abuse of the blue badge system.

Double yellow are pretty much the same as single yellow during the day when parking restrictions are in force.

And they don't apply to BMW or Audi drivers, any delivery van or anyone wanting to walk less than 10 yards to the nearest fast food outlet.

I don't begrudge any disabled person parking there. The alternative is to have them park either too far out or for them to stay at home. There's 900,000 blue badge holders in the UK. Spread that around the UK, and then think how often they're out in town at the same time. And then think how many will be parked on double yellows in that town. Just how many are we really talking about here? Virtually none. I wouldn't give it a second glance if I saw a car parked with a blue badge in it. I don't judge them, that's for someone else to do. I'm just happy that they can get out and about.

Also don’t apply to anyone who puts their hazard lights on.

Always park on them, only ever had one £70 ticket. £35 if you pay in 14 days.

Fair price for priority parking for years.

Seems the "Express" has the same thoughts as Tash. 18,000 parking tickets given out a day. That six and a half million parking tickets a year.

There is a guideline given to Disabled badge users when they get one because it is not a park anywhere licence. Judging by where I see a lot of them park clearly a lot do not bother to read the guideline.
There is one road in our town where the Disabled Bays are time limited and then they become loading bays the local traffic warden (he waits on the opposite side of the road, clock watching) doles out loads of tickets because drivers do not read the signs.

Parking should not restrict access for emergency services even if they have a blue badge. I do see some very silly and selfish parking that with a little more thought could be much improved.
