Done with Golf

Do you need the cash? Why not just bung your kit in the loft, and it's there if you want it. The odd family day, the odd offer of a game. Maybe you get the bug next year, and it's hundreds to get back into it.

Rack it and stack it. It makes sense.

I went through the same with Match Fishing, fished at the top level for years, full sponsorship but with the decline of the sport I became disillusioned with the falling match attendances, the rising costs of fuel, the travel and the mount of time and preparation required.

This coupled with a change in job role and my daughters going to 6th form and university was enough for me to call it time on the sport last year. Golf is substantially cheaper, gives me much more time at home with my family, keeps me relatively fit and gets me out of the house for a morning/afternoon when I need it.

I still have my fishing gear, I'll probably do few matches and a trip away to see the guys in one of the web sites North v South matches however that will be about it.

I may go back to it one day but for now I'm happy playing golf. As echoed above, I'd recommend keeping your kit, even if it's just for a knock about with some old mates

I know where your coming from, I played football to a pretty decent amateur standard but knocked it on the head mid season after 6 months of hating the game. 3 years on I think ive watched 5/6 matches and pretty much hate the game and everything involved with it.

Do you need the cash? If not there's no reason to sell off all of your gear. Lock it all away in the loft/garage just in case the urge does return.

Except for the Vokeys, ill take those :D

It don't matter whether it's golf or football or what ever you don't enjoy doing if there's better things to do than that/golf then do it. And when it's your kids that's involved then you will only get one chance of seeing them in there moment of glory. Golf will always be there and I suspect when the years have rolled by and the kids have there own lives to lead. The gate to the path to golf will open again as did with me after a 10 - 15 year absence.

I am in a similar situation were to many hours at work is really getting to me so things will change there to give me more time to do things I want to do. Ie grandkid.

Have fun with your kids and hope we see you around here every now and again.

Went through the same thing with pool several years ago. Played my last season in the first division not enjoying it one little bit but had people telling me I should go for county qualification. Won all but 4 games all season, played some of my best pool ever beating several county players in the process. Hung up my cue at the end of the season and didn't play for 2 years until I was persuaded to start a team for the pub again. Did that for 2 years getting us back into the first division again then quit.
I've only played about 10 times since then and that was 5 years ago.
I you don't enjoy it anymore and your not earning millions from it then find something you do enjoy doing.
