Does replacing divots Work?

Depends on the conditions I'd say. The ground has to be soft(ish) to take big divots and these should knit back quite well provided they are well trodden down. In really soft conditions you should hardly be able to tell it was ever removed. Problem may be that a dry spell would mean many not replaced properly (and many golfers like with pitch marks pay only cursory attention to doing a good job) will just curl up and die. Overall though I'd guess the success rate is pretty good so definitely worth doing.

We have biodegradable pegs to anchor the divot back into the hole. I would have thought that a sand and seed base in the hole and then replace the divot would encourage a two way meshing of turf and new grass.

Played a course a few years back that dished these out, Buckinghamshire somewhere, thought they were a good idea.... not seen them for a while. In Wales we replace and it works...nice damp soil most of the time!

How often does your ball end up in one. I cannot remember the last time I did. However, my record in one round is 3 times. Also, I would rather be in n a divot hole than Sat on the top of a freshly replaced one.

Ours never seem to grow back very well. Specially when the crows lift them looking for food.

This was my lie from the middle of the 2nd fairway on Friday afternoon and the reason I said what I said a couple of weeks ago. The picture was taken from behind the ball.
