Does anyone putt without using the line on the ball?

I use the makers arrow.
I am quite meticulous in lining up my ball.
Just getting up and hitting it on some sort of line would not work for me.
Putting is a major component and should imo have time taken over.
A good round becomes a very good round when putts are made.

It is not a case of stepping up and hitting the ball, I would do the usual things to get the line off the putt (walk along side the line to the hole, look from behind the ball etc.), I feel this method makes the speed of the putt easier to judge. I have never hit as many long putts that looked like they had a chance of going in the hole in a row as I did today.

Bob Rotella reckons that the first line you see is almost always correct, and any faffing about afterwards is just leading to problems.

I use the maker's arrow as Pokerjoke (but I agree with the Rotella school of thought, so it's a good look, then leave it). Thereafter, I know the line's right, so then I focus on pace alone.

Doesn't take too long to do, and no-one's ever complained about it being slow.

Also, at the moment, putting's the only thing keeping my scores down!

I stand behind the ball and pick a small mark on the line that I want to take, then stand parallel to that line. It's then easier for me to swing the club head back and forth to feel the weight of the put for length . Look down at the ball and take the putt within three seconds ( because that is about the time limit for the feel to stay embedded in my brain) then without looking after the ball I fire and listen. My thinking is this; I have lined up the putt so don't need to re-check it, I have felt the weight so I know how far it will go so the only thing I have to concentrate on is taking the club straight back and through. Simples!:smirk:

No need to line it up, I don't line up my ball with the rest of my shots! I think it's actually a distraction for most on the putting green and my putting has improved no end now I don't bother lining it up.

I am unable to multi task and given the choice between hitting the ball in the middle of the putter or hitting it along a line on it's surface ........ I'll take a focus on hitting the ball properly everytime.

No line, and I only mark the ball and lift it if its in someone's way or has mud on it. Too much faff for me...

used to line it up to my intended line- faff faff faff miss

Now I look from behind the ball, walk up, no practice swings and hit it............phenomenal results:thup: your brain does all the calculations you need, like it would if you had to throw it underhand....try it.

Tried with a line for a while early this year but found it distracted me.
Now rely on other things. Normally a mark just in front of the ball.

Stopped using the line on the ball as I would line it up stand over the ball then look at the hole. When I then looked back at the ball it suddenly doesn't look right and your left second guessing yourself.

Resolutely refuse to use them.

Goes against all received wisdom, but I quite like the idea of suddenly being able to change your mind about the line fractionally after you've taken the putter away, so I don't want some line on the ball getting in the way of that visually.

Tried this for a couple of rounds but found it a pain to line up properly. Used that as a reason to explain my poor putting and gave up. Still putting poorly though so perhaps should have stuck with it.
