DO YOUR IRON AND WEDGE SHAFTS MATCH?

I don't play specialty wedge shafts.
My numbered irons and my wedges all have the exact same model shaft,
but my driving iron doesn't.

My driving iron has a .370" hybrid version of the very same .335" shafts on my driver and fairway wood.

All of my clubs except putter have the same wrap-style model grip.

I like stuff to match these days,
although I can well remember having a bouquet of mis-matched shafts in my previous bags.

Is shaft matching important to you, and if so, what matches what? Grips?

I know that it my case, it's mainly to calm my head.
I match them, but I can't honestly say if it's important or not.

No.

My irons are all True Temper Elevate 85's, my wedges are Shimada Tour Wedge shafts.

I like a lighter flex higher launching shaft in my irons and a heavier overall feel to my wedges (swingweights are all around D5 in the wedges) with lower launch but still good responsive feel....the Shimada's give me this.

Err, no. I never thought that they needed to. I got my irons via a fitting, and my wedges are just bought off the shelf - they are made by different brands so I really wouldn't expect them to have the same shafts.

Insofar as they're all graphite - yup!
5-Gw are all the same, SW is similar in weight but a different brand and I think the LW matches the irons...
Doesn't seem to make a huge difference to me...they feel the same to me...

Yes, practically all of my sets were sold as 3 to SW, so the PW and SW have the same shafts as the 3 to 9 irons.
Clubs are basically sold one at a time, now.
You order the shaft and grip with each club, at least in the US.

Thus for me,
HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX 70-R on driver and fairway woods.
HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX 70HY-R shaft on driving iron.
[This is the .370" tip version of the .335" tip wood shaft. Driving iron is matched to the woods instead of the irons.]

KBS C-Taper Lite -R on matching numbered irons.
KBS C-Taper Lite-R on all wedges, regardless of brand, to match irons.

Golf Pride CP2 Wrap grip on everything except putter.

That said, my previous bags held a bouquet of mis-matched shafts
and that wasn't a matter of troublesome feel.
That was a matter of troublesome appearance.
It made me THINK there could be a problem.

As for grips, I don't play with a glove so I'm very fussy about my grips.

BTW,
if E-Bay, OMP, and Mr. Barlow had Boston accents,
they could slide right in at my club!

When I was fitted for my irons (4-GW) the fitter recommended same shafts for wedges, so added them in 54 and 58.

Now, you could say I already had two in the set - PW and GW, but the true wedges, as I see them are the other two.

Hated them and now have a completely different (steel instead of graphite) shafts in completely different heads in 52/56/60 (dropped the set GW), which are also twice the weight.

I certainly prefer heavier wedge shafts, but do see the reasoning behind matching them to irons too.

You have steel wedge shafts with graphite iron shafts.
I have matching steel shafts on wedges AND irons.....but not on driving iron.
My driving iron shaft is matched to the woods. Same shaft except, of course, the tip size.

Another thing I did differently is NOT order the matching PW and GW with my 5-9 irons. I didn't want a strong, 44° pitching wedge.
I have 6° gaps from 9-iron to lob wedge---40, 46, 52, 58, 64°.

One wedge does not even match another in my set.

I use 'speciality' wedges and they are bought to do a specific job.

That's definitely one way to do it. I did that for years.

If you order the wedges rather than buying them off the pro shop floor, however,
you can match shafts and grips with totally different model and brand clubheads
IF you want to.

If you don't, no problem, obviously.

I was fitted for my irons 4-pw with dynamic gold SL x100 which are 109 gram shafts and at the time I added the same shafts to my 52 & 58 degree.

Once the wedges were worn out I just bought new Callaway jaws in 50 & 56 which came with a stock 115 gram shafts. Have noticed zero differences.

There was also a time I'd same grips on every club in my bag, now I probably have 5 different types including having 2 clubs with a bigger grip as I bought 2nd hand and they came with larger grip, I didn't bother changing and again I've seen zero impact on play or scores.

Sometimes, it's not about what's happening on the grass.

Often, or at least sometimes, it's all about what looks good to you--how nice your bag looks to you.

Everybody isn't practical.

Aesthetics matter to many,
and they'll overspend to see what they like,
even without practical necessity.

Yes, I consider the top end of the iron set not to be wedges, whatever is stamped on the sole, PW now adjusted 2 degrees strong to 43 and my gap to 48 degrees.

That made room for three specialist wedges of 52/56/60 and shafts are intentionally heavier and stiffer and that has developed by best wedge game.

It's all about experimenting for me.
