Do you think you over complicate things?

Make way, Homer, Tiger and Alex coming through :D

Ouch Brendy...I think I've been quite a reformed character from my early days on here. When I first started I obsessed about everything mainly because it was all so new and shiny. Nowadays the two things that most concern me are playing more and getting better.

Did I overcomplicate things? Probably. But I think it was an important part of the journey... :D

I over, over, over analyse my game.

I keep telling myself to keep things simple but get me on the tee and the swing thoughts pop into my head.
After a round I always reflect on the bad shots and how I could have played them better.

I tend to over analyse many things though. Planning a job at work and the old "what if?" thoughts appear. Suppose it's in my nature as I always like to dot the i's and cross the t's.

I sometimes wish I could be less of an organised person and just "bloody get on with it!!!"

It took me a long time to realise (and Homer still hasn't) that the range and the course are 2 different things...

Range - mess around see what works, work on some stuff yuor Pro has told you or even stack and tilt if that floats your boat, even find some new clubs that you think make you hit it better...

Course - tee it up, hit it, find it, hit it and and then have 1,2 or (more normally) 3 putts, repeat 18 times, shake hands and have a beer and reflect what was an enjoyable good or bad round...

Bingo!

"I dont understand it, I was hitting of a flat lie on a mat pointing me exactly where I was trying to aim which wouldnt let me fat it and had a fairway 200 yards wide"

Shortly followed by

"Why cant I play like that on a real course which has all kinds of lies, ground conditions, undulations, narrower fairways and an actual target with bunkers and trees round it?" :D

when its pi$$ing down, you dont want to be there so hit a shot without over analysing it... how many do you hit great?

then next time your out and its dry try and replicate it and go over and over it cos it just grooved.

yes lessons leading to the correct swing, the right gear for the individual make a difference but above all else ability and dedication will shine through :) (thats me F... snookered :) )

This forum feeds my burning desire for knowledge and opinions I've had th bug for little over a year and love this game, this is the only website I look at daily as a result my fantasy football team has suffered! In the real world I follow charlton so golf is the only pleasure!

No, i just swing naturally, and occasionally it falls into place. If it doesn't i don't lose any sleep, or book a lesson, or hit the range. I just enjoy being out there, bit of banter, beer and nosh afterwards. What a great game.

Wondered how long before the Homer bashing started with this thread in particular. No surprise Sammmebee was there for it. Fortunately I've grown a thick enough skin not to give a sh!t anymore. For all the sceptics out there the answer is - much less than I use to. Three years ago and I had a million swing thoughts on every shot. Now its about hitting it and finding it again. I think Mike will tell you that I've been shocking recently but haven't stood there analysing what happened but just got the bag and tried to find it and tried to keep smiling.

As for the range comment, what the f**k. I like to practice. I need to practice as sport has never come easily. 99% of you never have and probably never will see me hit a ball on a course so I can't see how your qualified to really comment. Of course I realise that a flat mat is a world away from a course but where else do you suggest I work on my game when its dark.

Jeez sometimes you guys make me laugh. I don't for one minute think I'm the only one guilty of over thinking both in practice and playing but probably one of a few that'll get singled out.

In essence yes it is still over complicated and probably thus will ever be. Do I get frustrated - Yes of course. Will it put me off - stupid question of course not. Am I improving. Definitely in terms of ball striking in particular. Once I add consistency into the mix I'll be off and flying. It'll come and when it does my first port of call will be back here sticking one or two fingers depending on just how smug I feel at the knockers

Woah there Homer, I mentioned a few guys as you are all known as thinkers on here. The second comment where I said bingo etc etc was agreeing with the comment in general, not the bit in brackets regarding you. I am usually in the proshop on a Sunday for a little while chatting to the assistant pro about everything from footy to socialising and the amount of guys I have heard saying that they were poker straight and hitting it so well at the range but were playing rubbish out on the course, well there were plenty. Alex and Tiger know I was kidding when I mentioned their names, play the game Homer, the forum is for fun and chat. Life is too short to worry about all this and constant poor me mentality. If you post 17000 posts you have to be ready for some banter and prickles. I am probably the most hated person on the forum, ask dodger and rob etc! does it bother me? Not one iota, I know I will eventually meet a good few of you all and we'll all be grand.

Firstly it doesn't read like that as it follows straight on as if Bingo Homer spends too mcuh time on a range mat. Secondly don't see why the number of posts makes a difference but I'll ride with that and I've taken my share of banter and prickles and probably paid more dues than anyone. It just gets a bit of thin joke when I get told "lessons aren't working" you practice too much" you don't enjoy it enough" you think too much on the course" etc when as I say 99% of people don't know me or haven't/never will play with me.

It just becomes irksome every night why when it does come together I'm going to enjoy it all the more. Sorry if my reply sounded as though it was a dig directly (it wasn't) but its others like the poster before who NEVER have a positive word to say that annoy. Who knows, tomorrow might be my day and even if it ain't I'm not changing what I do and I'll get to where I want one way or another

I was down the range last night and working on playing shots that I will get on the course witha mate. Hit the ball cr*p and then realised that I only had 10 inutes to hit 40 balls. I would not say that I nailed them all, but I hit them all really well. Surely this was due to not having time to think?
