Does anyone have any ideas about a simple and accessible way to measure the distances of all clubs in the bag? I go to the range but can never get an accurate distance reading just going by my eye - also the balls are like bricks so presumably would fly differently to a ProV1.

I have been playing for many years but never really pinned down exactly how far I hit the ball as I go by sight and 150yd markers.

This might sound a pretty general question, but if anyone can give me some ideas, I would be grateful.

Does anyone you know have a gps gadget you can borrow one day ?

Or can you not get onto your courses practice range and then walk out the yardages ?

I hit PROPER balls at my club range, 20 at a time.

If I want to test two clubs at once, I use yellow and white.

The other day, for example, I hit 20 x rescues (yellow) and 20 x joke wood (9 wood) (white) to test for distance and height.

Out of the 20, I discard about 1/2 of them to leave a small "circle" of balls. That's my distance.

When I was marking my distances I used some old pro V's off grass on our practice ground and hit 10 into the wind with each club and used my SC5 to measure. I discarded any obvious mishits and then took a note of the shortest and longest and took a mean average. I repeated it downwind too

Thanks, I suppose short of going to somewhere like the Belfry I need to get out there and put the hours on the practice ground in. Problem is I am not a member at a club so will have to look around to see if there is somewhere I can measure out some shots without coming under fire from others!

Very simple, try and pick a still day, go to a well marked range where you can retrieve your balls (a number of golf clubs have ranges where you can do this when its quiet) and if its not well marked take a long tape measure and put some marks in yourself. Or go to a public field where you can get away with hitting golf balls and do the same.

It all depends on how important getting this information accurately is to you, most golfers settle for picking it up as they go along or taking guess work from range shots and dont make that extra effort to find out what their average hits actually are with each club. ;)
Do it more than once to find out how consistant you are.

Why not go to a range with fairly good balls that has plenty of flags/distance boards. This was all I ever did when I played at a muni and got pretty accurate with distances.

I couldn't measure every club, but I soon worked out my 7 iron could reach the green at 150 on a good hit and a 6 would pop over it! The PW would hit the 100 yard board full toss and my 3 wood went 200 yards uphill.....good enough to play to a good figure......
