Was due to play the a stableford at my club today. Got there and it was pouring down so decided to sit in car the for 10 minutes to see if it calmed down any as it was very quiet as did a few other groups.

After 10 minutes we decided just to go for it so off we popped in to the pro shop to sign in. Much to my surprise the pro told us we could not play as we had missed our time ( by 10 minutes). The tee was empty and after much debating the reason given to us was that we had waited on a weather change so had an unfair advantage on the rest of the field. I asked what if I had a flat tyre and missed my time and he said the same answer.

Is there a rule on this? I have worked over 60 hours this week and was looking forward to my Saturday morning round. Is this taking things a little too far? What makes it worse is that it was a charity event so needless to say I never paid so the charity missed out.

So was he right or wrong? Over to you guys..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

Welcome to Ranfurly Castle. However he is correct. How many played the medal today 25?

The tee was free? You wanted to play? You're a member?

Never heard anything so petty.

Unfair advantage my a***. What planet?

I'm guessing that you had a set medal time, hence the missed the tee time quote. He is correct as far as I'm aware.

Are you saying you didnt even get out for a game and not just werent allowed to enter the comp?

If so I would be asking for a refund on my membership as thats absolutely pathetic, fair enough if you miss your tee time not allowing you to enter the comp but not allowing you out at all when the tee is free is beyond belief:confused:

Next time I won't be booking a time. I'll just turn up and play when I like.

We did go out just not in the comp. completely anal if you ask me. Fair enough if it was the PGA tour. All this from a club struggling for members too.

Ah, but that's different. Missing your medal time is the same as "not turning up" even if you're 2 minutes late and your group has started.

Delaying going out is common-place at clubs round here. You just have to take your chances if the tee is still free. If it's not, you have to wait and maybe miss the cut-off. The cut-off is deliberate to avoid folks turning up at 4pm when it's sun shining and lovely when the rest played in gale-force winds.

he was correct going by the letter of the law .. but i supose rules are rules .. hope he is as attentive to all the other rules aswell tho , if ya miss your tee time & time sheet was full well tough cookie , your DQ .. but as you say yours wasnt .. fact it was for charity makes it worse ..

I really need to bite my tongue as I could go to town on this thread.

However the rules were upheld so no complaint can be entered into in my opinion!

A bit of common sense needs to be applied at times. At my place if you miss your tee time and the there is nobody waiting (which is unusual) then you can go out. If not you can try and book the next available time if there are any and if not you can wait and go out after the last group.

Totally disagree with the unfair advantage bit but at my place you are expected to go out at your booked competition time whatever the weather or follow the procedure above.

At least you got a game, I thought you had meant he didnt let you out at all.

By letter of law he is right but it seems a bit fussy considering the tee was free and you got out anyway, what harm would it have done to let you enter the comp especially seeing it was for charity

if the guy sticks to his guns the whole time , then i have no problem with it .. because the 1st time you bend the rules you create future problems for yourself .. break for 1 you may break for all ..
I will add in these financial times maybe he should learn the value of customers tho ,

Turned over a new leaf then Craw ?

The pro in question kinda sums the club up. He's an arrogant, unfriendly fella to say the least. Looks at you like you've done a big eggy fart in his wee shop.rules are rules but I'd have no problem letting that one go,hardly crime of the century

As far as I can see, the pro was in the right.
In essence you turned up for your tee time, didn't fancy it much because it was raining, then expect the whole competition to revolve around you.
I've absolutely no sympathy, and if it was up to me I'd ban you from the next competition.

I'll take the above as sarcasm!

Had we teed off at our time then stood on the first green for 10 minutes then all would have been ok. What's the difference? Also if the tee was even remotely busy I would never have dreamed of missing my time. If I had turned up with no time reserved and done the same all would be ok. If I had phoned the shop earlier and changed my time all would have bees ok.

Rules are rules but sometimes discretion has to take over. I assume most of us work hard all week and a round at the weekend gets us Through and also pay a lot of money to play the game too. Hardly the rule break of the century.

this echo's my view except that I would have fined you for failing to turn up for a booked competition, and contributed the fine to the charity.

if it makes you feel any better, if you had stopped for 10 minutes at the first green for a bit of weather, I might have DQ'd you for delay of game...
