Direct Golf Price reduction a few days after ordering...

They offer you the chance to return an unwanted item so it is the customers right.

See below from DG website.

If you purchase an item from us that for any reason fails to give complete satisfaction, you may return it to us for an exchange or refund so long as it is new and unused, and in its original packaging. We cannot accept returns on used merchandise, special offers, custom fit golf clubs and personalised items

Yes but with that quote, DG would just send the OP another item. There is no mention that the difference would be returned. Just and exchange so a like for like swap. The op would need to completely return the item wait for a refund and then reorder. In this time there is a chance that the cost may go back up in this time. Unless of course the OP has an extra £99 that would allow them to purchase another now and then wait for the refund to come in which could take about a week or more depending on how to long it takes to get back to DG then with the banks also.

You are failing to distinguish between a retailer's terms and a customer's rights. Only the latter is generally enforceable in law.

In any event there would have to be a valid reason for the goods not giving "complete satisfaction" such as being faulty or not as described.

A subsequent price change is not a valid reason.

Under DSR you don't need a reason, just return for a refund within 7 working days.

Did you even read what it said?

Its within their rights to return the item as unwanted if the company have offered it (which they have).

You can rebuy it on the same visit to the store if you want.

Nobody has said its not within the OP's rights to return the item. Its just been stated that they are complaining cos DG have now reduced the cost. As people have stated it is most likely that DG will offer a good will gesture and offer the difference back. But it is not a right that just cos the cost has now reduced that they can get it back by law as you are stating.

It is a right, it's called Distance Selling Regulations.

"But it is not a right that just cos the cost has now reduced that they can get it back by law as you are stating"

This statement is correct but using the distance selling regulations or the retailers own T&C's the OP could find himself in a situation where he is able to return the original item for a refund and purchase the same item again at the reduced price.

Note it does not say that P&P costs will be refunded so in this case is the exercise really worth it. If the OP is that bothered he would be better off trying for some form of credit note as a goodwill payment.

However, from your previous comments I suspect that you would think that DG should also pay the P&P!

Yes i did read what it said. It does state a refund but that would be a full refund. As the OP has purchased the item online they will have to state why they do not want the item anymore. Which in this case is the price so this is most likely to be arranged by email or phone so then someone at DG is either going to say OK that's fine we will just give the difference back or advise we can offer an exchange but then no money would exchange hands cos the original contract still stand between the OP and DG at the original price.

Other wise they will need to return the item and the re-order but again there is no obligation for any company to do this, which is what you were stating.

Also no need for you to put caps on your posts. It comes across very aggressive!!

"would think that DG should also pay the P&P!"

Certainly not, the customer would have to pay any postage costs for the returned item. As the new item would be a new transaction it would most prob qualify for free postage again.

Next is a good retailer for this. Order an item from their website, try it on at home and if you don't like it, take to a store within 28 days and get a refund. Not a customer right but well within their own T&C's.

MetalMickie do you see it is the Law ie DSR?
@Garush same thing, DSR and no reason needed.

John Lewis, Amazon and others offer to refund the cost of goods bought from them that come down in price after you have paid and not received (Amazon) and for any and all price reductions you even SEE with other high street retailers (John lewis). I had 3 price refunds from JL in 30 days for a TV I bought.

some very weird views from some I thought were reasonably sensible:rolleyes:

Yes but the DSR state:

The Distance Selling Regulations are the rules that protect your consumer rights when buying products from a distance, for example, online or over the phone. They set out information the seller must give about the goods or service on offer, including:
a description of the goods or service
the price of the goods or service
delivery and any cancellation rights
information about the seller

So on DG's website it clearly states the price of the item. The OP has not been conned in anyway, the price has been been stated at £119 and then has been actually charged at £129. Everything was clearly set out and that's why the OP went ahead with the purchase.

And they also state you can return for a full refund within 7 days of receipt and don't need a reason.

Did you miss that bit when you were cutting and pasting the rest?

No i didn't miss anything. It is call consumer protection but i don't really see that the OP has been harmed in any way they entered into a contact and were happy to pay the price at the time of buying. As i stated within another post that the likely outcome would be that the OP will contact DG and they will get the difference back.

I was just purely stating that the OP thought it was unfair that the cost had now come down in price since purchasing and as others have stated its not DG's fault that someone bought an item and then they decided to lower the price.
