Not been to the range but the shop is smallish.
I rate DG, just got two wedges to same spec as my irons, arrived from mizuno in 10 days and a teener cheaper that quoted, Better shafts and grips than standard. i ten to use the Doncaster shop though

looking for someone to say they have used them, so that is 100% in favour so far.

Doncaster is no further for me than Hudds so will give them a shot I think.

Have just spoken to Direct Golf and was told they wouldn't fit someone with a Driver.

He directed me to a square John Letters driver on their website (£250 down to £149) and said that is what he would recomend I bought.

I was expecting a little more personal treatment from them, not to be told 'this is what we will sell you'

Just been told there is a shop in Leeds called Eagle golf, closer to home so may call in there after work today.

I'm so confused!!!

The listing on Yell.com isn't encouraging for Eagle Golf, however there is a place in Wakefield that advertises a computerised fitting service (whatever that entails) and a couple in Sheffield (too far?)

Trouble is that not many high street stores offer what could be classed as a fitting service. At best they may be able to tell you what is best suited from their off the shelf drivers and some may even change the grips on one if larger is needed but they offer little else. Certainly they will not have any shaft options for you to try beyond the standard manufacturer regular or stiff.

Also, ignore the John Letters gear, they own the company and always try and push it. Also not sure how he can recommend a club over the phone.

DG the range is crap as well, kids who do not know one end of the club from the other.

I think it's a problem with these large chains, the standard is extremely variable. my local DG is really very good - how many golf stores/ranges do you know with a bar and restaurant? - good staff as well, and good instructors.

I went to AG and they tried to fob me off with used clubs at top wack, yes I know people and myself included used some of them, but I am not going to accept a batter, skied and worn driver at over the odds (compared to online) prices. I used the G10 for a round and it doesnt suit my game so I called them and ordered a brand new club which arrived about a week later. They tried this on with another customer when I was in, but he was totally wasting their time, hitting drive after drive with no intention of buying just trying to constantly knock down the price.

If you know what you want, get it online or your local pro.

Is it just me or do all these kind of stores employ 1 slightly overweight pro and two kids with funny hair?

Dunno what bonus Jack has got them on but they sure love trying to flog Nicklaus at my local AG (Mind you DG always try John Letters with the unsuspecting punter!)

Mind you in terms of price they do good deals, I got my MX17's for £180 at christmas which I think is a pretty good price and they always check the best price for balls.

Never tried fitting anywhere but I would hazard a guess that you'd get as good a price and a better experience at a custom fit centre if you can travel a bit

Fella,
I am not sure if you have contacted here but I just thought it was worth a shout.

http://www.garforthgolfrange.co.uk/about.lasso

I believe they do a fitting in Garforth, give them a call and check if they do fittings for drivers, the R7 quad is £199 on offer.
I know it well, the 1st driving range I went to. Never considered it just assumed it would be expensive.

I'm going to call in to my local AG tomorrow after work and have a nosey round then try Garforth on Friday and see what is what.

I want what is right for me, but I am also wary of wasting their time by trying stuff and not buying, but that is just my conceous and I have to get over it.

This'll be my first 'proper' golf purchase and I am wanting to get it right, I'm propably over complicating things.

hey spoff, you're a genuine customer looking for a purchase. you wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them and you wouldn't buy a pair that didn't fit just because you tried them. same diff.

Agreed, have fun and take your time. I have often spent an hour or 2 testing clubs before making a purchase. Certainly where I go (DG Cambridge) they will let you try as many clubs and you want and just leave you hitting balls till you find one you like.

The only thing is that not every shop stocks every make so you may need to go to a few places before you have tried all the ones you want to.

Is it situated at garforth golf course or elsewhere.
Wouldn't mind a try as it looks ok on website

elsewhere, not sure myself as I live north leeds but its just a range & store I believe.
It is a Range and shop. I don't think it has any links to Garforth Golf club (which I beleive is a private members club)

the driving range is very good and would recommend it.

Right, been to AG and the Garforth range. I'll be the proud owener of a TaylorMade Burner or a Nike Saswotsit tomorrow.
