At the moment I have Titleist AP1s 2009 4-PW with dynamic gold r300 shafts. However, they are not taking me anywhere and are only holding me back.

Therefore, I was wondering if it would be a good decision to trade them in - the guy said for about £300ish - and get the Wilson staff FG tour irons 4-PW but with s300 shafts.

I currently hit my irons with a small pull but with the FGs they were straighter, higher and about 10 yards longer

Perhaps the FGs are better for you, other than that I'm not sure I can quite grasp this one.

Higher and further with stiff shafts. Seems an unlikely combination....have you double checked the comparable lofts?

Hey Pete,
This may not be of much use to you but i bought the FG Tours last week and i have only played my second round today with them.Im off 19 and altough these are supposed to be tour irons i find them nearly as easy to hit as my old Di7's. There definately more accurate.
I bought them with the S300 shafts but what the pro said was that although i was able to hit the R300 fine the S300 would'nt be as long (only a few yards difference)but that the stiffer shafts would give me a more penetrating flight with a tighter dispersion. Im still really in the honeymoon phase with them but its all good so far.
Im sorry i didnt buy them sooner.

I did try the 2009 AP1's and ended up getting the 2010 model. From what I understand of Titleist they must have been seriously unhappy with both the original AP1s and AP2s to have brought out replacement irons a year later. I was hitting the DG's too high so swapped them out for Project X and am getting on pretty well with them.

It's down to you really but if you're convinced I guess it's better to make the change now while they're worth a bit more.

Pete, have you tried the Tit's with stiff shafts? if not, try and give one a bash, new shafts would be a cheaper option then binning them for the Willies. Worth a try first.

I tried the titleits with stiff shafts and they were awful tbh and i dont want new clubs for the shafts, it for the thickness and topline.

The thinner the club, theoretically the lighter it will be, therefore the faster i can swing it (whilst being controlled) and then hit it further

Not all correct as i play blades and their probably the heaviest irons ive ever used :p. If you dont like your irons then fair enough as no one can play with clubs they dont like, Lee Westwood as an example.

I think your mind's pretty well made up from the sound of it. go get the Wilsons, I don't think you will be happy until you do.

All this talk of Tit's and Willies Drawboy isnt it a bit early in the night and maybe the wrong forum to be on.... :D :D :D ;)

New clubs will give you a boost no doubt however your statement about the clubs holding you back is absolute nonsense.

Tour professionals have AP1 &2'S in their bags, some have Callaway X22, some have Ping G15, all classed as game improvement irons. Play with what your comfortable with.

This was my initial thought. We have 1 pro/3 assistants at mine. The pro uses ZBs (or whatever they are), the lad off nothing plays AP2s and the other two AP1s. They are winning all sorts of stuff off virtually no h'cap......

I've seen good players knock it round almost par with all sorts of GI irons.

If I was lucky enough to own a spanking set of AP irons, I'd not be claiming they were holding me back. As it is, I've got better things to spend my money on.
