different pros

morning all,

would having lessons from two different pros be beneficial or a hindrance. reason I ask is that there are two pros Ive been having lessons off and cant decide between the two. both have there good qualities and it would be in my interest to keep in with them both (one asked me if I'd like to go to spain with him and his mates for his annual trip and regularly offers me new kit to try and buy at discounted rates, the other has said on a number of occaisions that if I'd like a round he would be happy to play with me at no cost).

I know lessons are a must but should it be with just one pro to stop conflicting views.

I guess that depends if you are getting conflicting advice. Having lessons is as much about understanding what you are doing as it is doing it. I'm not sure I'd want to be practicing thinking "Pro A says this but Pro B says that". For me I'd want to be going back to one Pro.

Also, it depends how often you're having lessons, if it's regularly then sticking with one I would think would be best, if it every couple of months I don't see how it can hurt so have 2.

I'm going to have to have lessons with different pros because the practice area at my course isn't long (or wide ) enough for me to have driving lessons so I'm forced to take those with the local range pro.

if only everyone had that sort of dilemma...!! I'm lucky to play with one never mind have 2 throwing offers at you! soak it up and enjoy

I've stuck with one pro. As long as you are happy with them, and I am, you build a relationship with them and they know your swing and faults and can spot where you are going wrong very quickly.

I didn't pick up a club until I was 37 and started having lessons a couple of years later when playing off a 25.2 handicap and now play off 8.9. This is over a number of years but the trend is still downward and will hopefully drop again after Saturday's medal.

They should both really be seeing the same issues with your swing, if they are both saying totally different things then I'd be looking for a third opinion!

I tried a different pro last year. Waste of money.
Back to my club pro who knows me and my erratic game.

How about splitting what they teach.

Say have one for Driving and Irons, another for Putting and Short game.

That way their advice won't conflict.

HID has booked me a lesson with the pro at the club she works at thinking she was helping as my game is so bad. I've not got the heart to say I'll stick with the guy I've been using for the last few years and who I trust and understand what he tries to get me to do.

It's difficult because the original teacher has done nothing wrong and I wouldn't have thought about using this guy if HID hadn't booked it up. I'm tempted if we get on to use one for the long game and one for the shorter game too

My opinion is that conflicting views are not always both wrong. Two different teachers are going to pin-point two different things that they consider to be important.
However, as a general rule, I wouldn't recommend having two teachers at one time. Stick with one, see how it goes.
