hi guys had my 3rd lesson in as many weeks the other day, but this time with a different coach to the 1st two times because he wasnt available and i couldnt make any other day.

the 1st guy had me standing further form the ball and trying to turn my hands as the club meets the ball in order to straghten up my shots.

the 2nd guy said my swing was nowhere near vertical enough and was too sweepy. so he has me standing almost over the thing and just concentrating on swinging free and loose.

when i told him i hit the driver and hybrid very well he said its because a sweeping swing suits those clubs better. now do i keep my 'old' swing for these clubs and use a vertical motion for the irons?

im very confused, and the new swing doesnt feel right. going to cyprus tomorrow where ill be playing aphrodite hills and very worried...

Played Aphrodite - expensive but great fun - be prepared for death or glory carries over the valleys - you just have to stand and hit it and not think technique or you're dead (sorry)

The beautiful thing about golf is that there is a million and one different ways of hitting a shot where you want it. The main thing is you understand why you are making these changes and then it is upto you to decide which swing best suits your game

I've had three pros teach me over the last five years but its really only since December that I've felt I've progressed. The last six months with the last guy I just seemed to stagnate. The point is going to a one plane swing I've become flatter and swing more around myself which for me has been better. It goes to show that there are many ways to do it but you need to find a guy to trust and who understands what you want to achieve and you understand what he is getting you to do

I don't see the issue.

You went for some lessons and are now confused. You are stuck between the swing you know and trust (which is not ideal) and some new tweaks which won't be ingraining themselves in for a while.

Story of most golfer's life :)

If you are playing, stick with your old/own style and then put yourself to work.

I've often had a lesson and said "don't expect me to be doing any of this on the practice ground before next Monday, as I'm playing this weekend in the medal".

Then I go back to the lesson, play like a true hacker for a while (3 months in my case) until things take shape.

Two teachers (in anything) will often have differing opinions about the best choice of what to work on first. Maybe they are both right? They might not be mutually exclusive....

if im teaching someone to hit a ball for the first time i encourage them to hit down on the ball and not try to sweep it into the air. the first time they do this correctly and realise that the club does the work for them opens up many doors and they are usually instantly hooked into wanting to repeat the feat. hitting down makes the ball go up. who knew eh?

Snooker and pool players have had a rough idea for quite some time!!!!
