Diet

Don't worry about me mate. I know what I'm doing. Used it many times before and works very well with me. When I reach my target weight I'll simply increase my cal intake.

Which is semi my point.

If you have to keep on doing something,
Used it many times
as you put it, doesn't that say something?

If you're happy doing it fella that's all that matters.

This is only due to the Christmas intake. Drinking 2-3 nights a week in December, meals out, takeaways, Christmas with family, non-stop eating for 4-5 days etc. Bit like Ricky Hatton although we're talking about under a stone here, not the 3 stone he'd put on!

That intake/excercise ratio will last maybe 6 weeks at most. I love exercising, so always keep myself in great shape fitness wise.

Beep test every month :)

I see what your saying.

I take a different approach. I'm in the same boat as you, eat drink and be merry over the Christmas period and all that, and as you say, gain quite alot of weight in a short space of time.

Thing is, as your weight increases, so doeas your BMR. This in turn raises the amount of calories your body needs to maintain it's new, heavier weight.

If you go back to your regular eating pattern (pre Christmas) you will fall into a calorie deficit pretty much straight away (A calorie deficit is being less than BMR + Activity Kcal). So over time, you will lose weight and continue to lose weight until your reach a maintenance level for your regular calorie intake.

If you want the process to happen a little quicker, a little exercise won't hurt, but crash dieting is definatley not the answer.

Edit: N.B I deally you would want an incrimental reduction in Kcal intake post-Christmas dpending on how long you over indulged, but seeing as Christmas is over and done in 7-10 days for me, I generally revert to my previous calories over a couple of days.

I totally understand that, as I train with a former personal trainer when I run. Calories in v out at 1000 or so a day is only losing 2lbs a week. It's not a mental rate. Plus I'm eating very healthy food and I'm used to the exercise I'm doing.

I wouldn't call it a crash diet as such, I just don't want to waste 3 months when I can get it done in 6!

Like I said my man, If you're happy that's all that matters.

There has been a GM diet club on here with various members all trying to lose weight and diet together and using the power of the forum to motivate themeselves. They use to have a Tuesday or Wednesday weigh-in and post the results on here. It was going well for a while and then seemed to tail off. Made good reading too

Diets don't work. Certainly not long term.

Losing weight is easy unless you are physically impaired. Eat a bit less, exercise a lot more. Simple.

Spot on! Last January I lost a stone in one month just by cutting down on my snacks during the week. I also walked more during the week rather than taking the bus/train and took the stairs rather than the lift at work. It really wasn't hard to get down to 12 stone by the end of January.
