diet, what you eating ?

I hate to say this Bikky, but...

Cheese - no
Butter - no
Real ale - no

But then again my mate Andy lives on pizza, guinness and chocolate and is a 6'2" 12 stone lanky streak of p**s, so what so I know.

Let me clarify.

Aztec is 100% right. Eating dietry fat WILL NOT make you fat. Excess calories make you fat. If you're excess calories are carbs you will still gain weight.

1 Gram of fat = 9Kcal (1g protein = 3kcal. 1g carbs = 1kcal.)

The reason weight watchers and the like tell you to avoid fat is not that it will make you fat, it's because it's so calorie dense that it would take up a large proportion of your calorie alotment for your "diet".

Body builders when they are cutting for a competition will still have some amount of good fat in their diet, very very low carbs and loads of protein.

This is correct up to a point. Elite bodybuilders also use diuretics and dehydration when getting close to a competitions to aid in the reduction of water weight and to tighten skin. This is why so many faint and have dibilitating cramp on stage.

A bodybuilder cutting for a competition will reduce his calorific itake gradually from as early as 6 month pre competition (depending how long their bulking phase, calorie surplus has lasted). They don't just drop calories in a massive jolt, they gradulally lower their intake which allows the body to adjust to the new calorie in take and allow hormone levels to stabilize along the way.

Like I've said before, our bodies don't understand foods, they understand energy in vs energy out and make changes to hormone and adipose levels accordingly.

We always have a "Filthy Friday" at work, where we have takeaway, normally kebab and chips!!!:angry:

Chicken Kebab (not the doner rubbish!) has to be excellent though for dieters?

I have just cut out the Magners (now I am on Bacardi & diet coke) and nasty junk stuff. Actually, I never realised I could drink so much diet coke!

I can eat what I like and dont put on weight. The trick is not to swallow.

Getting back to the fat talk. I did try that Atkins Diet some years ago where you only eat fatty foods and I did lose quite a bit of weight. Made me feel ill but lost the weight, it's something to do with Keytones.
