Over the weekend i played in our fourball better ball and the last 36 of the club championship.

Saturday in the 4BBB I'll say roughly mid to high 70's. Drove pretty well, irons generally good, a few poor shots from less than 50 yards. Putting very good. Even managed to bag three birdies on the trot for the first time!

Went to work at 7 finished at half one and then couldn't get to sleep and it must have been around 4 by the time i nodded off. Up at 7 to get down for my 8.07 tee, a little jaded to say the least.

Morning round.. 77 played very well in most departments except my long putting wasn't very good and two bad holes where i three stabbed from around 15 feet. So nett 63 and joint best score of the morning and up the field i go for the afternoon round. I had a break for nearly an hour and a half.

Didn't feel too bad on the first tee and hit a nice ball up the middle. Biggish hill to go up to the fairway and started to notice i was a bit tired by the time i got to the flat. next shot pulled left into bushes so lost ball. get a 7. Poor tee shot on 2 hit a tree about 100 yards up. badly hit rescue goes into bunker under lip. nob it out then hit another bad shot and into next bunkers. end up with an 8. Steadied up a bit but more bogeys than anything else. I did have a 9 at the last as well. My putting was the only thing that kept the score down! Ended up with 90 blows 13 worse than the morning round.

The last 7/8 holes and i was absolutely knackered. Mentally tired as well as physically. Does concentration/lack of energy make a 13 shot difference or do i have to just put it down to being the inconsistency of a 14 handicapper?

You need to lose some weight...about 2 stone should do it.
JK :D
Having seen your game, I put it down to tiredness as your course does have a few hills on it.
Sharp mind, sharp game :)

You play off 14, shot a 77 and your conclusion is that your putting wasn't very good :D

Good shooting... you were tired, should have loaded up on the mars bars to keep your pro happy

How much fluid dod you drink and what did you eat, both during the break and in the 2nd round. You say you got mentally tired and that sounds like dehydration to me. I have to be careful with my diabetes so I can't add to my pros mars bar profit margin and shouldn't really have lucozade sport (although the new Lite is only 5g of sugar per 500ml bottle) so I make sure I have things like bananas. I was also given a recipe for flapjacks on here several years ago (forgot by whom) which used Weetabix and are ideal. I think you can probably put half of the shots down to mid-handicap pressure situation errors and some of it to fatigue. Either way I'd still be very happy with the overall performance.

I'd vanish if i lost 2 stone Bob :D

JustOne, My putting wasn't that bad, just couldn't get my pace right on the longer 20ft+ putts on the first few goes leaving me a bit of work. So lets say four bad long ones and a couple of pushed ones on right to left short 4 footers(Don't like these!). So overall my putting was decent by most standards.

Homer, i had a couple of bottles of lucozade sport each round and a snickers. Bacon bap, a coffee and an Irn Bru during the break. so wasn't exactly energy giving.
