Describle Your Putting Grip

No. It is whatever gets it in the hole. Your natural hand eye co-ordination will work, unless you stop it by conscious thought. Any grip will do the job if you let it.

Murph

I agree with the hand/eye co-ordination to a point but surely sound technique must play a part too. Any putter that is overly wristy (unless exceptionally talented) will always run the risk of not repeating the stroke with any consistancy. One with the ball too far forward/back will struggle with the quality of strike etc. I think any grip is fine as long as it is neutral and works in unison with the rocking motion of the shoulders

Hmm. :D

Someone who is a natural putter could hold it any way he wanted, and still putt like god.

If you are not a natural, you can improve through technique, and grip etc, but you will never be as good as a natural putter.

The difference being that they don't have to consciously manufacture anything in the swing. If you are thinking about taking it back straight, grip pressure, pushing down the line, square the face, etc, you are not thinking about holing it, you are just hoping the hole gets in the way of your perfect stroke.

Is this a u-turn? :) (only kidding).
I reckon that "one" should always strive to do stuff properly so that if you have little or no talent*, you might get somewhere quicker with the optimum technique.

Like me*

I've been putting way better since changing my grip and getting a C/F putter. 2 things, 2 or 3 less putts a round......got to be a bargain for an hour and £35

:)
