I need some serious cheering up.

Today was a society-type day to what must be the nicest, posh-est, best-kept-est, friendliest, greenest, impressivest course in the county.

But something went wrong, big time, and I don't think I want to play golf again for a while.

1) the suggested format was Greensomes. I nearly lost it immediately with this idea. I was desperate to play this course, not hit 50 (or something) shots in a whole afternoons golf.
I veto-d this. Thank goodness.
2) the pins were crazy.....every time I hit the green, the hole was 3 paces away from a run-off or 3 yards from the very back edge of a 40-yard-long green.....middle of the green golf was not on the agenda.
3) the greens were SLOW, slow, SLOW
4) I can't even remember at least half the holes....this is so unlike me....I remember whole courses, but it was like 14 more-or-less identical holes, same trees, same view, no interesting hazards,

but worst of all

5) every last green was uphill from the fairway shot or pitch-in-shot apart from 2 par 3s. I walked up to the fringes, eyed up the shot, went back to the ball and saw nothing.....apart from 2/3rds of a flag-stick......I don't mind up-turned greens, not at all, they're fun.....but....whoever designed this course clearly rated blind pitch shots as the way to go.

and to think....12 hours ago, I wanted to join here! :D

Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

I think I need to take a trip to a links and save myself from the blandest, most annoyingest course I can ever remember not enjoying. :(

Sorry to hear it's the worstest course you've ever played Dave.

I'm sure your mojo will be back soonest! :D

Golfmmad.

I really hope so. I feel like someone who's eaten 18 ham sandwiches and knows tomorrow is ham sandwich day.

Parkland doesn't have to be dull and bland. I know it can be, but for goodness sake........

You've not played Whipsnade then? 17 identical holes, in imaculate condition, and then one with a dog leg right (no good to me, I draw the ball).

Could you have built up the course so much in your mind that it was doomed to not meet your pedestalled expectations?

I can't say this has ever happened to me in golf but I've been out with friends so keen for it to be a great night out that's it's been awful. Conversely, I've also been practically dragged out when really not in the mood and had the best time ever as I'd had such a low expectation from the outset.

You know, you might have a point. Everyone rates it and everyone wants to join...and...well, you can tell I didn't like it.

The mad thing was it isn't even that tricky, I reckon if you know it well enough all the annoyances might not be an issue.

Then again slow greens are slow greens - there's no excuse for that. Maybe there was some serious game there in the morning so they went all sadistic with the pins.
