Dear Sky Sports

Sports commentators are dire.

I'll never forget the last world cup - they had a bloke on, can't remember his name, but if I had to take a shot of vodka for every time he couldn't even finish a sentence, I would have had to go to the hospital quicker than the England team had to take the plane home. That's saying something.

One of the reasons I mostly love the beeb is the lack of adverts. Happy to pay my license fee for that alone.

I suspect sports fans notice the adverts more than most as I am guessing that sport is one of the few things people watch live on commercial TV. I can't really remember the last time I watched something on Sky or ITV that was not sky plussed, other than sport. I do wonder how you can watch some of the crime dramas on ITV live, as surely the constant advert breaks every 10 minutes would drive you potty and you'd just lose any tension that has been built up and it would be too fragmented.

And then you get the problem where they have to write the drama based on the fact you have constant advert breaks, so they have to have some kind of 'mini drama' before each break so you come back after the advert break. Instead of just letting the whole story ebb and flow like the best ones do.

Most of the advertising on Sky is promoting things that are bad for you or your wallet, such as junk food, alcoholic beverages, automobiles and on-line gambling!

I wonder how many of those wishing to do away with commercials are amongst those seeking the end of the Beeb...

Not me, that's for sure.

The BBC is a shining example of fabulous value for money. Not only in its TV service but also its comprehensive radio service (globally, nationally and locally)

I am so saddened it has lost The Open and that from 2017 we will have to endure ad breaks every 15 minuets, listening to Robert Winstone et al banging on about betting (responsibly of course - yeah sure!) on which of two flies will be the first to land on a sticky bun.

I agree with the OP that these adverts infest any sporting event but it isn't just SKy and I'm sure there will be some in the CL final coverage (or highlight show). I know they are running the advert about not gambling when "the fun stops" but is that when you and the family are in council emergency accommodation, you're on a theft charge to feed the addiction or what? I'd like to see it far more regulated. I know there's still alcohol advertised but it seems far more managed and of course the days of tobacco advertising are long gone
