What happens re compensation. I presume the FA are liable to reimburse West Ham as he was injured on international duty. Its a shame as he was just breaking into international footballer and looked to have a decent future ahead of him

A real shame for him as i think he would have been a great 'Shearer' style player for England. He'll get about £3M compensation from West Ham due to his contract length. The only thing that worries me is the rumours that he's going to sue Shaun Wright-Phillips and Chelsea ( SWP was still with us at the time ) for the injury suffered as it happened during an England training session. It doesn't worry me becuase of the Chelsea link but i just can't see how an un-premeditated challenge can ever be seen as anything other than an accident .

I would have thought there would be some FA payment due as well as it was on England duty. If not directly to Ashton then certainly to West Ham. I think the SWP thing is a smokescreen. If it happened as part of a training session especially one as controlled as an England one where the staff must be on eggshells all the time (clubs pulling players if they get injure on international call ups) then I doubt it was anything other than a sad accident.

Its a 'shame', thats all it is.
Can hardly feel too sorry for him if he's in line for a £3M payout can you ?
I mean, plenty of lads wreck knees/ankles playing football all over the country and cant play again, but thats the risk of playing.

I totally wrecked my left knee at 17, which meant I couldnt ever play football or rugby or any contact sport ever again.

It happens, but no-one handed me £3M.
