Given the option would you rather be deadly from 4ft or a really good lag putter from any distance guaranteeing no more than 2 putts?

Deadly from 4 feet, there is still always the chance of the odd long one dropping anyway.
Im part way there though, deadly from 12 inches.

Deadly from 4 feet, especially if you can chip from everywhere to 4 feet.
Those 4 footers are the shots that keep the momentum going.

I can't :(

And my lag putting is just as appauling.

My putting inside 4 feet has been good recently.

I suppose the correct mentality is what I was taught in my early days,
Every club is capable of putting the ball in the hole, why would you want to Cosy the ball up short to the hole with the easiest club in the bag? Which kind of rings true for me, I'm a handicap golfer, by far no means adequate but always aim to put the ball in the hole when at least around the green.

skills from 4ft every day!

I feel if you knew u would make it from 4ft your chiping would improve ten fold as the fear of having to knock it dead would be gone!

Good lag putter every time. It's no good being deadly from 4 feet if you keep leaving 6 footers! I like nothing more than a tap in for par (preferably many of them).

I'm with Fyldewhite 2 putt, chance of 1, wam bam thank you mam!

Id have to say Lag Putting...Im pretty strong at it and Im capable of missing greens hitting them or just landing on them inside the fringe...With the odd one in 200 landing withing 5 or 6 feet.....So for me id prefer to be a great lag putter until i reach a time in my game where i can genuinly go after a pin reassured that im not going to miss the green :(

Dont have lag problems but to be able to hole all those 4 footers would be priceless. I dont have any issues with short putts but occasionally you get 1 or 2 slippery ones that can slide by and take the momentum out of your round.

My goal at the moment is to reduce three putt's, seeing as they mostly all come from 20ft and further then lag putting is key for me. Maybe as I get better at chipping and indeed wedging close to the flag that will change, but right now, I would give a lot to be a good lag putter and that's what I'm working on, together with chipping closer to the hole.

I suspect this question is in the end quite dependent on your short game standard. I have many more 20 ft putts for par than 4 ft putts for par.
