That wasn't what you were saying- you mentioned lots more highly deserving people.

Its always been successful entertainers/sports people who have achieved over their careers and traditionally awarded at the latter stages. Just wondering who else you had in mind?

That is partly my point that entertainers doing there job get an honour from it. The people that really deserve these awards are the folk that genuinely devote their life to helping others. It sounds like I am havig a pop at DC but it is the system that is flawed IMO.

Personally I think its a good thing. If cricketers can rewarded for winning the Ashes then why not recognise a home grown winner of the Open too. Add in the numerous tour events and Ryder Cups, the way he has come back after dealing with everything he had in his private life and still remaining (at least to Joe Public) a likeable "one of the lads" type of guys then fair play I say

If it was a sentimental vote surely he would have got the OBE after the Ryder Cup win. He must have got it in a major part for winning the Open.

The whole of the England Ashes winning team in 2005 got OBE's, including Paul Collingwood, who played one game, and from memory scored 7 runs.:mmm: Well done Darren personally think it is well deserved.

My old fella played with him as a guest of Oceanico a couple of years ago, he got chatting to Darren about his shoes.
A few weeks later he arrived home from work to find two pairs of DC Stuburt shoes on the doorstep.

Dad says he's a thoroughly nice bloke, loves a beer and down to earth.

Again, well done Darren.

Well done to Darren. Although he's earned a good wedge from the sport, he comes across as somebody that the man in the street can relate to - so helps to promote the sport as accessible to Joe Public. Also does a lot of charity work.

I am pleased about this one - he has had a fantastic year with the major win but the charity work, Ryder cup stuff he did last year ect is the real reason he should get it.

2nd in the BBC sports personality shows he is well liked by Joe Public as well - Golf needs to be up there in the publics view.

Scrap the whole stupid system, most of the honours go to civil Servants and mates of politicians.

Why do we need to pin badges on people that by and large only do the job they get paid for. If you have done good work for charity then the reward should be in seeing the benifits less fortunates get from your efforts, again you should not need a badge to get puffed up with.

When I think of the likes of Bruce Forsythe, Alan Sugar and John Prescott it makes my blood run cold.

Mmmmn let's see, I'll be back at work Tuesday hating every minute of it, Dc on the other hand will be walking a fairway in perfect sunshine in short sleeve order after getting up from his 5 star hotel bedroom and sampling a 5 star breakfast, his butler ( caddy ) will have his clubs sparkling unless he has picked up new ones from the tour truck for nowt. He'll probably call at a cash point and check if he has slipped below 10 million before teeing off and getting a massive sponsors cheque wether he wins pr comes last. What I may ask is his reward for all this toil? An OBE that is worth another 5 million and get him a lifetime of bum licking from all in contact with him. Jealous...it doesn't cover it by a long chalk.
