Dalmahoy 7th June

I believe we are looking to close off entries next Tuesday, after which Paul O'Hagan, who is co-ordinating that one will advise every one of their start times.

But DCB is right - times should start from around 10.30 running at 8-minute intervals

Jezz, received your entry today thanks.

How did Paul get on at Wentworth today? Any chance of a report from him?

I had the pleasure of his brothers company today at Ladybank....fine man and a fine golfer too.

Haven't heard from him, but looking at the results it looks like he must have played pretty well. Finished 3rd with Soren Hansen, one shot off the lead as per the following link

Won't find out how he actually played until Friday as I'm off to Wentworth today to do one or two things, but at least that means that if he played well I won't have to listen to a blow by blow account in the office today!

Morning all

Jezz is correct, I will close the entries on Tuesday and email tee times then. The first tee time is around 10am. We have a good number of entries so far, so it promises to be a cracking day.

I had a great day yesterday with our FootJoy Pro Am team which consisted of Soren Hansen, a GM competition winner, a howdidido competition winner and myself. Soren was on fine form and had some great strategy advice for a feature that will run later on in the year. I won't bore you with my round but an 80 yard bunker shot into the 18th to 6 foot was a highlight, despite missing the putt.

Dodger, I hear Ladybank was superb yesterday.

Aye it was, unlike my game which is on life support. :o

Good luck to all the guys playing tomorrow.. Looking forward to it..

Clubs cleaned
Shoes Cleaned
Clothing ironed
Car filled with petrol
Bag stocked with balls & tees

Off to bed now for a sleepless night

Thanks to the GM team for organising a great day out. They even organised the dry weather - for us in the first group out at least!

I'm glad that I don't have to play 7000+ yds every day. This was more than 500yds longer than the whites at Castle Stuart last year.

Good luck to those in the remaining qualifiers.

You were one of the lucky ones Simon. We were just coming off the 14th green when the thunder started. By the time we were down at the 15th tee the thunder had been joined by lightning and some rather heavy rain. By the time we reached the 17th tee, the storm had passed and three rather drookit golfers played the last two holes in glorious sunshine.

Let me add my thanks to the GM Team for another great day out. Hope those still; awaiting their qualifiers have as good a day on the course. :D

Congratulations to those guys who qualified for the final especially to Fraser who was a pleasure to be out in the same group with.

I'm just pleased that only the winners names were read out, as I had a disaster, but hey ho, I still have two arms and two legs and I'm able to have the occasional bad game of golf.

Today was a good day banter wise and the organisational skills of Mike and Paul were very much appreciated.

I hated the course with a passion, very very mediocre golf course with about 5 good golf holes. The 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 18th were all superb holes. The rest were non-descript and quite mind numbing if I'm being honest. (That is my opinion, I'm sure some will disagree however the general consensus was that of disappointment, from what I gathered!)

I expected so much more from Dalmahoy considering it has held the British Seniors and the Solheim Cup. Most of the holes blended into "nothingness"!

For instance the 1st and 10th are carbon copy par 5's. The 16th is a stupid 600 yard uphill par 5 which you cant pop at in two due to the elevation change, the bunker infront of the green and the burn at the foot of the hill. I had to play it as a driver, 5 iron then a 7 iron. A 600 yard par 5 is defence enough without over complicating the approach. Scott who I was playing with had to lay up with a 7 iron short of the burn. Crazy hole.

If I had driven today I would have walked off at the 4th. I had no enjoyment at all today from Dalmahoy. That may be a bit harsh and a touch of sour grapes but it did not float my boat or suit my eye at all. If I had been charged £90 (standard green fee) for that I'd have been arrested for demanding my green fee back as I wouldn't have left till I got it. £45 TOPS is what that course is worth.

The greens were brutal. My fairways are running faster. There really was no excuse for them to be so slow as there was plenty of grass on them.

Congratulations to all the winners, I wish you all well at Forrest of Arden.

Finally thanks again to Mike and Paul, and a huge thanks for the photographer, that was my biggest smile of the day, boy was she flexible.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The greens were brutal

A tad slow for your liking Craw ? ;)

They were a bit of a disappointment, I had expected the to be a lot better than that at this time of year.

ps your wrong about the 14th it's an awful hole

Just a tad.

I could have replaced my putter with a sledge hammer and still struggled to get the ball to the hole.

Same as rest cheers Mike & Paul enjoyed the day, played with Iain, Jim and Dave who's game was way better than his 15 handicap suggests.

Got of to a great start 3 putting the first and second for bogies and from then on just could not get to grips with the greens, you had to give it a mighty hit if you were outside 10ft.
I did have a nice run of pars on the front 9 but this was due to good approach shots not the putter.

Got to agree with Craw very boring course apart from 13,14&18 greens were terrible and add to that some horendous bounces on the fairways made it a bit of a lottery which side of the fairway you ended up on and went away a little disappointed as I expected better.

Thanks to Mike, Paul and the "Rules Department" for their help in organising another great meet. The course has been discussed as above and doesn't require me to add anything further.

Well done to those who played well and made it through to the final.

Finally, can someone remove all sharp objects from Crawford's possession...for our own safety if nothing else!

Well, I’ve got to be honest when I first played it I thought it was not bad, maybe because I won a couple of prizes? A long slog with some holes, in the back nine especially, that looked as if they were just dropped into a space. But, that day it was in good nick, good weather and the greens were quite fast….was I just lucky. Apart from the fact that I’ve got so much on I wasn’t jumping at the chance to go back there, and I have had a few chances to go back.

A good day out in good company, as usual so thanks to Mike and Paul for their efforts again.

My golf was at it's worst (19 points!) but it was a pleasure to play with Pete, Mark & Roddy (Naebrains). Mark won longest drive (maybe not surprising off +1) and bagged a 2 to boot and I think Roddy would have qualified easily had someone not played his ball by mistake in the following group. He was already on 34 points but that frazzled him and sadly he didn't collect any more.

That was Dalmahoy at it's best ever, chaps. Say no more about the course. It's about my 40th favourite in the Lothians.

Only highlights golfwise for me were the birdie on 9, a good drive in front of the very attractive photographer on 10 and nestling it to 12 feet in front of "the crowd" on 18 after a good drive and another (34th, I reckon) thinned 6 iron.

Well done to those who qualified for Forest of Arden and good to see you all again.

Enjoyed the day despite the course being tosh!
34 points with no score on three holes...one of which the ball done a disappearing act between the 15th/16th fairways arghhh!

Great to meet Mike & Paul and some of the forum boys.
