Dags.....Do ya like Dags...

I have to agree fully with the statement that its the owners not the dogs that are bad....

Ill just give you a point in comparison from one of the many stories i could tell about my boxer......
When my little one was born my boxer was 3 years old....So he was there ever before her...We still gave him the attention that he craved when the baby arrived...

One day when my other half had been upstairs with the child she was doing the ironing while the small one was crawling about....We had a gate at the top of the stairs which i had left opened by accident.
After a couple of minutes there was a bark and my missus went to the stairs landing where our boxer had actually stood in front of the child and pushed her back from the first step with his head to stop her from falling down the stairs...He sat there and blocked the opening.

Take that for what its worth but that dog saved that childs life.....

Sorry to hear about your dog mate. Real heart breaker. I have 5 dogs 2 rotties. whimarana(sp) husky and a canaan. They are all good with the kids as they have grown up with them. But the only one I would trust 110% is the whimmy they are totally devoted to their family as a breed. They alway take him with them when they go out playing on their own. God help anyone who tried to hurt them. The dog would give his life for them. The best kids dog I have ever had.

We had a cocker spaniel as a youth and to be honest he was a Nasty little bugger! I could do anything to him as I was boss and would go nose to nose with him snarling and I would be fine. My sister and father on the other hand could of been bitten as he was also very protective of me!! As an adult I now have two lurchers who are soft as, great with our two kids(trod on, tails pulled etc) they just get out the way when it's too much. Also bark slot at the door and back gate etc. plus side dong need loads of exercise!

Cockers are not Springers. Different temperments.

100% agree with Mungo. As I have said I have 5 dogs. They all know their place. I also made sure they know the kids are higher up the order than them, plus also taught the kids how to behave with dogs which is just as important. As a matter of interest. Dobermans were breed to protect kids while the adults worked. Rotties are cattle hearding dogs. Must admit springers can have a screw loose and would never leave them with kids. Oh and for the record more dog bites are recorded every year by lab's than any other breed. I have owned packs of dogs and trained them to the gun and obediance comps for more years than I care to remember.

Sorry wasn't trying to say they were the same just saying that just about any dog can be nasty, most are spot on and like us there's always one that's a nasty bugger!!!

Also our cocker was 18 months when we got him and had not been looked after at all, we had to shave him as the hair on his ears, legs and underbelly was so matted it was pulling on his skin. As said the owners make bad dogs, it took alot for us to undone alot of his problems.
