It has a good cast but not sure how well it can be done
Thats a shame- there is no way on Gods earth this will be any good! Mark my words.

The original is just that, original, and the characters were believable and many unknown.
It had that slightly amateurish and innocent charm to it which coincidently actually reflected the age it was depicting.
A polished 21st century HD movie will scrub all that away and leave it.... (well I'll use Corp Frasers own words when the platoon were on manouvers and hiding in the long grass) "Stand up, and expose yourself"

There are many tv shows that made movies- every one of them was a total and unadulterated flop. They take the original concept and location for the successful show, throw that in the bin and stick the characters in situations so far removed from their comfort zone it can only have one outcome.

I give you....

Minder....on the Orient Express:eek:
Only Fools and Horses...in Miami:eek:
Are you being served...on holiday in Spain:eek:
Morecambe and Wise...

Add in Victor Meldrew's painful exploits in the Algarve
On the Buses Films
Fenn Street Gang on the big screen

I totally agree with what you say and the fact it was live and a little haphazard in place added to the appeal especially watching it back now. Special effects, deafening sound track and fancy lighting will ruin all of that

Should have been left well alone.

But

If only they could have gotten the Comic Strips Strike and GLC produced with the real actors;)

I have a feeling that for people of a certain age it will just not be the same, as good as, the TV programme. For the younger generation that have never seen the TV show, it might encourage them to watch it, and what a treat for them. As it is set in the 40's, it will not seem dated like some other 60/70's comedies.

it will be like a lot of old films and tv shows brought up to date, terrible i cant forgive Stallone for doing a remake of the grittiest British film ever GET CARTER.

I agree with the John Cleese interview when he was asked about it, good cast but they won't recreate that era and all those unique one liners, the characters are set in stone, its got failure written all over it, unfortunately.

On the other hand there have been some TV shows made into very good movies, 21 Jump Street, Batman, Police Squad, Star Trek, Mission Impossible and I hear the first Inbetweeners movie was good if you are into that kind of thing.

They have a very good cast so it could be great. Yes it's not going to recreate the exact look and feel of the original TV show, but I'm guessing they are not really trying to do that. May be they are taking the elements and humour of the original and trying to update it. And not hark back to the golden days of 70s Britain, as perish the thought any golfers would want to do that.;)
