I played in the 1st round of our Wednesday medal (Lomond Cup) yesterday and managed to shoot a nett 61, 6 under par.

Having played a lot of golf during the past two months, but not very well, I was looking forward to the greens and fairways being a little bit firmer than the early season medal conditions and so it proved with the Vale of Leven looking immaculate. a 3 over par scratch front 9 followed by the same score on the back 9 helped me to record my best ever scratch score.

I was fortunate enough to win this competition last year and was hoping to post a couple of decent scores to get me into this years final, well I am half way there and have 8 further medals to get another sub 67 round in to qualify as the qualifying score is normally 128 or lower.

So my handicap goes from 12.0 - 10.8, not bad considering that on 12th June last year I was playing off 16.

Just pleased I got the clothing fitting this week, rather than the Irons fitting, it would have been difficult to give up my Taylormade R7's.

I'm not surprised, Phil is a very very good golfer, even off his new handicap he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Single figures won't be far away.
