i had a lesson from the pro yesterday, who suggested that i try going for a club fitting, as i am 6"3 when in my golf shoes, so the standard club length may not be doing me any favours.

i have booked a time with him on monday, he said if i order the clubs through them, the fitting would be free, if not then the fitting would cost me £35.

my question is would ordering through them be very expensive, or am i best taking the measurements, paying the £35 and finding a really cheap supplier myself?

to be honest i would be happy using standard length clubs as there are so many deals to be found online with standard clubs, without having to pay loads to get them custom made.

I think custom fitting is really worth it.

It should be not just cover length and lie, but also shaft type and flex, spin rate and launch angle off the clubface and grip size.

Hi Yuzo

Im 6'4" and have recently had my clubs fitted. They are Wilson Di9 and were £300 in all. I didnt get a 4 or 5 iron as ill probably go for hybrids but I can say that custom fitting has made me stand up a lot more and feel alot more confortable at address. You will notice the difference immediately.

My clubs are 1" longer and 5 degrees up on loft. That 1" longer is so much difference to my old clubs that I didnt play with much anyway and always hit thin or fat shots.

I can recommend the Wilson Di9s and maybe just get 6,7,8,9 iron PW and SW I wouldnt bother with the 5 iron. This may only cost £250!

How much are you thinking of spending?

hi mattie, thanks for the info.

who fitted the clubs for you? .. was it your local pro or was it a retail golf shop? ... and did you order from the people who fitted you, or did you shop around first?

i can pay however much i need to really, i am currently breaking 100 on the score side of things, so dont need top of the range irons.

i dont want to get my woods custom fitted, as i prefere to get these 2nd hand off ebay, dont want to pay the huge price of a brand new custom fitted driver.

Hi

I got my clubs fitted at the local range which is Fore Golf discount in Chester. The local pro did measure me up yes. I dont have and hybrids or woods yet but I suspect I will get them custom fitted as its free and there prices are pretty good. They dont have an online shop though!

The wilsons are pretty decent I think they are great :)

what do you consider a huge price? you can get a custom fit driver for under £200 (Orka, Snake-Eyes etc).
I'm looking at going this route myself, so I've been out vetting fitters before I book up.

Hi

I would highly recommend custom fitting. I have been fitted twice now, irons first (Di9s) then for driver and wedges. It really does cover so many aspects and combinations of clubs shafts etc. I personally wouldnt buy a club that wasnt custom fitted. I used the Belfry for both fittings. I looked on the web to check the price of what i paid vs online stores and they were not far apart at all, and some clubs were cheaper at the Belfry!!!

I couldnt find my driver online with the type of shaft and loft i finally got so a custom fit was very useful as it provided me with a club that suited my swing/style.

Good luck with your choice

I've just been custom fit and just going through the process clearly demonstrated what a difference shaft type, lie angle, shaft length, grip etc can make. I chose an upgrade on shafts but without that I would have been paying the going rate for my clubs.

I'm 6'4" and struggled big time with standard size clubs. Trust me it's worth it and your unlikely to find your clubs fit online for much less.

just had my club fitting with my pro, he opted for me to have my clubs lengthened by just over 1/2 an inch.

i was kind of expecting to come away with an order for some new clubs as mine are only cheapo slazenger, but he said they do the job fine and wasnt really worth me upgrading my full set of irons just yet.

he said they could do with 1 degree more upright, but should do fine with the lengthened shaft.

so instead of £300 i will be paying £30 :)
