Maybe not a rules question as such but I’m curious.

Our SSS is 70 and CSS is nearly always 71.

Yesterday we had an odd situation where the course played exceptionally difficultly, as greens were lightning-fast but several pins were almost unplayable. Should have been moved but weren’t. Consequently the winning score was 33 in a field of 40 entrants.

So far no result has been published on our website which is also odd and was just wondering what the outcome might be in terms of the CSS.

Is everything still calculated as normal? If so I imagine CSS might go up to 74/5? Am I right?

Your CSS can only go up by 3 to 73. Beyond that it is +3 Reductions Only. Calculation is based on proportion of players reaching buffer or better

Thanks, Jim. Wasn’t sure what the process was as have never been involved in the dark art 😄 of handicapping.

Is that a max of a 3 shot increase everywhere - i.e. if your course’s SSS is 72 then it may go to 75 under similar circumstances?

That is the case. If your par and SSS are not the same (very often they are not) the CSS calculation is based on the proportion of the field achieving buffer (against SSS). Par is only relevant if it is the same as SSS.

Although par is relevant in understanding what a score of 33 points stableford represents relative to SSS and buffer (although you would of course need to know the handicap of the person who scored it as well!)
