Cricket County Championship

Sorry but that bit of action for an hour or so wasn't cricket - they might as well had thrown under arm and had all the fielders sat down. It wasn't the "best effort" of the players. Both teams should have been made to earn the win instead of manufacturing a T20 run chase. Cheapened it all IMO

"Should have been made to earn the win..." Take a step back and listen to yourself. Personally, I thought it was well thought out by both captains. They both contrived to give themselves a chance of winning. Put your own interpretation of it if it satisfies your sour grapes if it helps... As a Yorkshire fan I'm disappointed with the loss but I applaud both teams for trying to manufacture a win.

Contrived finishes have happened for years in the County Championship. Nothing dodgy, Middlesex and Yorkshire both wanted to win, both gave it everything. At all points any one of 3 teams could have won and all 3 did their best to do it. Even at the end Yorkshire kept going for the win as it was a win or bust situation. All teams should be applauded for their efforts.

it is a bloody joke that the ecb ban certain players for playing for their employers.
the ecb have and will always be a bunch of old farts who don't give a toss about anything outside of middlesex.
just imagine telling real players who played two 3 day games a week that they couldn't play for their county. i think Trueman would have told the ecb where to go again
i am not saying yorkshire would have won, but you can not have people telling counties who they are allowed to play. players are being turned into bloody footballers.
internationals are not exactly overworked. how much cricket has root played for yorkshire, proper cricket not one day slogs.
the system needs an overhaul.
stop outside influences effecting games
not having 3-4 county games in september. lucky with the weather,
play the one day circus then and don't scrap half the summer for a few days of slogging

Central contracts were brought in to give England a chance to improve at test level. It's worked pretty well. Don't forget the ECB are paying their wages not the counties.

There are definite inconsistencies in who can and can not play but overall the system has improved the national team and that is what keeps the counties afloat.

Lets face it. If Somerset were in the same position as Middlesex or Yorkshire they would have done the same. I don't think there is no contreversy here.

The only contentious issue for me is that of who the ECB made available for the matches. Considering Stokes played for Durham (how injury prone has he been this yr), Finn played for Middlesex, why not let Bairstowe and Root play? Remind me again who Strauss used to play for ;). Rashid I still don't get.......why would you want to "rest" and miss such an important game.

It certainly seemed inconsistent.

We, Warwickshire, were in serious danger of relegation yet Woakes was denied to us yet, as you say, others were given the go ahead.

Either all centrally contracted players should have been made available or none.

I agree. I'm a Lanky so only Jimmy would have played for us. We got very lucky this season. Hopefully our young side can push on next year.

So what were Middlesex and Yorkshire supposed to do? Play out a dull draw and hand the title over to Somerset on a plate? I'm sure nobody would have criticised those tactics and highlighted how ridiculous and dull it all ended up and how it was a massive anticlimax.

In a form of the sport struggling to stay alive against the McDonalds style T20 (fills a hole but is eminently forgettable and not good for you) this was a great afternoon for CC cricket. In a season dominated by draws we had two teams attempting to get a positive result. But some still find something to moan about.
