Anybody on here played it? we're thinking about adding to our tour of ST Andrews next week and just wondered what you boys are think.
We have room for one more course and are thinking maybe Crail, or if you have any other suggestions of where to play.

Cheers,
Jim.

I have never played Crail, but if you ever find yourself at a loose end whilst your up there, and fancy a quick nine try Anstruther. It isn't anywhere like the standard of St A's but great fun nevertheless and dirt cheap!

One course I could recommend is Elie. I have never heard anything but positive comments.

Have a great trip!

Crail is a truly superb links course and well worth a visit. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone in the Fife area.

It is not long, there are some lovely quirky holes, quite a few major elevation changes but the scenery is amazing and you will never forget the course once you have played it.

Played both courses a couple of years ago and they're both worth a knock, but in different ways.
The Balcomie is a good, fun course that has quite a few interesting holes. A good mix of par 4s & both long & short par 3s.
The Craighead course is much tougher, especially if the wind is blowing, and it usually is. Probably one of the hardest course I've ever played. If anyone can tell me how to play the 17th I'd be delighted.
The Eden course in St. Andrews is also worth a look but it's difficult to keep your eyes off The Old Course next to you!
There's some good reviews on this site.

I'm trying to.
I lost the final of the school knock out there in 1976. It was my opposition's home club and I had never played it before. And I had to give him shots.

Yes, played it, also part of our St Andrews links tour.

As posted above, some good quirky holes. Great views out on the sea, course lined by water on some holes, stone boundary walls on others. Historical course, and I guess now a decent clubhouse (it was being renovated when I was their a few years back). Also, the drive to the course is a bit surreal, going on through the middle of nowhere...

What courses are you booked into so we know which other ones to suggest?

good preparation

good point, we're playing cordrona on the way up, the old course, new course x2, eden, jubilee, anstruther..... that leaves room for one maybe two more if we're lucky.

So definitely thinking Crail and scotscraig now.

Also spending a day at carnoustie for the ladies open as a friend of ours is competing. she gave us free tickets :)

could also try leven links or lundin links two open qualifiers 12 miles along coast from St Andrews.
offer at leven mon tue wed between 13.30 and 15.30 four ball for £140 including traditional high tea

I love Leven Links - it's about 50 yard sfurther in land than most links, so (blieve it or not) it has a tiny bit of a parkladn feel to it in places, but the fairways are lovely and firm , and those first couple fo hoels where you havent got a clue where to aim are great.

Also, largest green in the world on 18, across a much wider burn than it seems, and a green on a slope of about 30 degrees (ok a few exagerrations there but you know what i mean)
