Now I've got a real problem! Played at another local course with my mate Colin (CVG)(I taught him to drive!) - Aylesbury Park. Col's a 5 day member there and I played for £15 - good value because the course is pretty good. Greens are big and undulating and there's a proper 1st cut/2nd cut/cabbage to the rough. Some nice holes as well - only a par 70 but a decent track. Big plus is they've got a par 3 course that the members seem to be able to get on for nowt. Great for practice.
Anyway I shot an 82 nett 72 for 34 points and Col struggled to 26 (bad front 9) but an enjoyable round anyway especially as I had back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13!
The problem?

Well, should the Financial Director give me the green light for a membership I'm now torn between Aylesbury Park and Aylesbury Vale. Costs are the same(ish), AV is further away, AV is longer (6500 to 6100), AP has the par 3 course but no range (although there is another range closer to home), Memeber numbers are similar but AP noticably busier, AV is probably the better/tougher course.

So they've both got good bits and not so good bits - as Medway said - Its difficult!!

Playing again Monday so I might make up my mind!

Good shooting Imurg. Golf is ace in the sun eh?

AV or AP then...is there much difference in the distances? I am drawn to the idea of place close by, with a mate already a member and the bonus of the practice Par 3 option...if it's on your doorstep, you'll be inclined to pop in a lot more.

That said, a better course would probably help your handicap more.

Forgot to say that Col walks to the course!! Pulling his trolley. He's about 2 minutes from the 1st tee!

To be honest both courses are good enough to challenge me. AP is 3 miles but 15 minutes away, AV is 10 miles but 15 minutes away - have to cross town to get to AP. But I'm around town more so AP might get the vote.

Oh I don't know................

I think you might want to look at things like their competition set up. Are they drawn or is it the same old groups every week which may make getting a competitive round hard. How many events do they have per month
