Court Upholds Gobbing in Public as Illegal

Im taking the straw man argument yet you rank leaving dog turd in a public place the same level as spit?

Yeah the country is thriving too

I never said leaving dog mess in a public place is the same level of spit. I just said that both would be considered unhygienic and fall within the anti-social bracket. You started talking about people having nose bleeds through no fault of their own and implying if we went down the route of fining spitters we would be fining them as well, which is a ridiculous notion, unless of course they were deliberately snorting blood onto pavements etc. The simple fact of it all is spitting is anti-social and completely unnecessary. If you absolutely must spit then do it into a tissue or a cup or a bin or the toilet, you don't need to be doing it on the street.

And no, the country isn't "thriving" either, but it's certainly not "on it's knees".

You poor chap. There really is no beginning to your talents is there?

As this was a littering issue, and non payment of a fixed penalty, i would guess that this matter was sorted by a magistrates court.
Considering the defendants were both found guilty and fined £300 plus no doubt costs, i fail to see how this as cost the local council anything. In fact i bet they're quite a few quid up.
As to weather it was worthwhile, i guess it depends on what sort of country you want to live in. If your happy to live in a country were people have no reguard for their surroundings, or respect for other peoples sensabilities then fine, it was a waste of time. I however, think it was not.

Respect for others and regard for your environment - if you don't have either, then as you say - twas a waste of time and money. However I'd rather live in a country where respect and regard are valued and upheld by the laws if necessary - otherwise we are on our way to hell in a handcart.

I wonder if any who think this whole thing is a fuss over nothing every drop litter - ANY litter. I can say hand on heart that since I visited scandanavia in the early 70s as a young lad of 13, and was struck that there was no litter and hardly any grafiti, I have not dropped a single scrap of litter - nothing at all - and when I have by mistake I never leave it dropped. And I take the same attitude onto the golf course - picking up other players litter as I go round, relatively insignificant bits of litter though they might be. The only thing that I draw the line at are fags ends - yeugh - I just can't make myself pick them up. I wish smokers would consider fag ends as the litter that they are and put them in bins like any other form of litter (I don't buy the biodegradable guff making it OK by the way). I'm sure smokers will see this as much an 'unreasonable' request as asking 'gobbers' to not do so in public.
