Courses Near Derby

So, the lads golf trip this year will be to Derby! None of us have ever been there, which is why it was chosen. Thing is, I don't think there is a wealth of courses nearby. We are coming down from Cheshire, so it's not far. All the courses on the way down two of us have played as they are in our (my current) senior league. So they have been discounted. Looking around Derby it's a bit sparse. But around Nottingham seems better. We only need three to play. So, has anyone got a suggestion as to which?

You can't go wrong with Holinwell, Sherwood Forest and Coxmoor just north of Nottingham but if you want a course closer to Derby then you should look at Kedleston Park. It was an Open qualifying venue and has always been in great condition when I've played there.

@Crow and I played Ormonde Fields, near Ripley, last year. It was inexpensive and a bit of a gem.

And if you do end up in Notts then Springwater near Calverton and Oakmere near Oxton our mine and my pals’ favourites on our Notts trips.
A lot less pricey than the better known courses in the area.

Cavendish, Buxton. Not Derby, but it will be on your route.

Good and not expensive is Willesley Park, Ashby-De-La-Zouch. Directly south from Derby, not far away.

If you want cheap South Chesterfield golf Club. I used to be a member there. It’s a great for the price. If you want really good try Coxmoor. A bit further across but well worth a visit.

I'm a member of Wollaton Park Golf Club, which is about 3 miles west of Nottingham city centre (about 25 minutes from Derby). We're not in the Hollinwell/Sherwood class, but the course is decent (hosting Brabazon qualifying next year, our centenary), and the park setting is lovely. If you play after 2pm it's £160 for a fourball.

Near to us are Beeston Fields (under threat of closure), Chilwell Manor and Erewash Valley, all OK in summer, a bit further away from Derby are Stanton-on-the-Wolds, Radcliffe-on-Trent.

• Horsley Lodge (just north of Derby) is very pretty, played three opens there and hope to return this year.
• Chevin (also north) is worth a look but slightly Marmite, it's uphill for the first ten holes but the views when you turn around are wonderful.
• Rushcliffe (to the east) is always very well-presented - it was the venue for the only time I've been knocked over by a golf ball (the striker of said ball is a member of this forum...)

Willesley Park county card rate £30. The only restriction - can't tee off before 8:30am.

I used to live in Derby and be a member of a club.
I recommend Kedleston Park, Chevin, Breadsall Priory, Mickleover, Erewash Valley. Also local are Morley Hayes & Horsley Lodge.
A bit further afield are Burton-on-Trent and Chesterfield.
Further are Cavendish, Buxton High Peak and Chesterfield.
Nottingham courses are Wollaton Park, and Coxmoor. More pricey are Hollinwell and Sherwood Forest.

If you are looking for courses close together and just north of Derby I would suggest Chevin (hilly as noted), Breadsall Priory (which has two full courses) and Horsley Lodge. I’ve not played it, but Morley Hayes is very close to the last two named.

Oh yes!!!!! We missed this one two years ago due to a down pour.

There are lots of good courses around the NottsDerby border.
There are some great recommendations already made.

Personally I would avoid Trent Lock.
