I'm currently planning my golf holidays and have looked up some web sites of planned courses that I hope to visit. A couple of them have little feedback from visitors so I'm looking for anyone to provide me with their experiances for the following:Ballumbie,Downfield and Strathmore.

Downfield is beautiful.

Strathmore, sack that idea and go to Murrayshall. Great place to play golf, both courses are superb and the meals are good as well. Also in that area you have Alyth which is nice, Glen Isla and slightly further afield Blairgowrie.

Dont ken anything about Bumblebee though.

Thats just my opinion though.

Out of the 3 that you mention, I have played Downfield.
Quite a long course, especially off the back tees but not too drastic.
I think it has been / is used as an open qualifying course?

Typical parkland, with a few streams and ditches thrown in for good measure.
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate it about 6 or 7 on the enjoyment factor.
Both times we played it (consecutive years in late May) the greens were not at their best. The rest of the course though was fine. Good fairways, teeing areas and bunkers.
If I remember correctly, all the par 3's were testers...
Hope that helps a little
Rob

Just seen the post above....and would agree with Alyth. Not the first course you think of, but a real treat and feels more secluded than Downfield.
Blairgowrie (Rosemount) is a "must play"...probably one of the finest courses I have ever had the pleasure of playing.
My map reading skills are terrible, but other courses I have played in that area that I would happily return to are Panmure (boring start but then wow!!) and Scotscraig. Wonderful turf. Ladybank is lovely too.

Played all three Downfield is the only one I would recommend, as mentioned before try Alyth, Kirriemuir,Forfar or Monifieth in place of the others. They are all within 20mins of Dundee.

I haven't played Forfar but we drove by it one day and stopped to have a look around. It looked gorgeous.
We vowed to go and play there the following year but decided on the Algarve instead and unfortunately have not been back to Scotland since.

Yeah, Downfield is the only one I've played, too. Cracking course with loads of interesting holes. We played it twice in the one day, once stableford and once Texas Scramble. Lots of trees to put your ball into. I can remember lots of the holes still which I always think is a sign of a good course.

How could I forget about Edzell. That place is beautiful, superb golf course and you will struggle to get a better welcome anywhere. Really enjoyed that course.

It is slightly further away but in my opinion well worth it.
