Course Defrosting

The course manager at my club put this on the web yesterday:

The big thaw begins today... Melting snow on frozen ground is a horrible combination, the water simply has nowhere to go until the ground thaws!

We have an enormous amout of repair work and tidying up to do once the snow is gone because of the damage caused by people using the golf course as a sledding run. We have tried as much as possible to keep people off the course but at times this has been hard to police. I would ask that any Members using the course in this way to refrain from doing so in future, you are only contributing to the problem which in turn will delay the reopening of the course.

We hope to have you all back out playing as soon as possible.

Hopefully it will be open on Thursday.

Whilst it's terrible that there's so much repair work to do (though sounds like they know what they're doing if there's a chance it'll re-open Thursday!) I'm not the least bit shocked that people have used it for sledding during the snow! Not that it makes it right to do so, however!

Morons alwas sledge onto our 16th green, and do untold damage.

I have asked Joe public to stop before, but just get grief about how people have always done it, and if the golf course didn't like it there would be a sign up saying so. I have then pointed out that there are signs off every foot path asking people to keep to the path, and that the golf course is private property. Then they just go off on one.

Some people are just pig ignorant.

After seeing a couple of pics taken yesterday, ours was still under a couple of inches.

Still showing as closed, and doubt there will be much golf played until Friday at the earliest.

My course has just put some pics up on twitter & facebook. Still quite a bit of snow about but should be gone by 2moro. Like posted elsewhere tho the sharp frosts we had before the snow means the top inch or so will still be rock solid with all the water sat on top from the snow. Courses that have had a good winter will now see no benefit from the dry mild winter we had up until last week. Let the mudfest begin

Is it just me being mean but i do get the impression the staff quite like the idea of impromptu extra fortnights paid holiday and are in no rush to re open?

All snow finally gone from my place. Looked out the window this morning and the green keeping staff looked to be pretty busy and active in preparing the course for play. Course should be open tomorrow, but will avoid it for at least a week or two as it will be a bog in a number of places. Some holes will also need time to recover from use as mini sky / snowboard / sledging slopes - ashamed to admit that the kids, missus and I took advantage.......!!

Just been for a lesson and snow has melted but course is (rightly so) still closed. Inspection this afternoon but hoping they keep it closed for another day as it's seniors roll up tomorrow!

Hoping to play on Thursday though and if I hit them on the course like I have on the launch monitor today then I'll be a very happy bunny

Course is open again from Thursday. Complete ban on electric trolleys for a month though. Luckily doesn't affect me. I might get out on Friday as Ive got an isolator to change Thursday evening/night so leaves me a 3 day weekend.

We were still closed today.
Hoping to be open tomorrow - got a 9.25 time but have to call at 8 for the news.
Top inch is thawed but it's below that that's the problem. Still solid so the water just sits.
