As most of Britain is covered in a blanket of snow at the moment (you may have noticed), given the choice, what would you rather do. If most of the snow goes but the greens remain frozen, would you rather play 18 holes on 18 temporary greens or not play at all?

As we don't have temps, it's full greens, frozen or not.
I voted "play on temps", as I would.

Last weekend, our greenkeeper went out decided which holes were ok, which weren't, then defined the route, ended up having 10 holes open. I don't mind playing off mats but temp greens seem pointless!

I dont think to my knowledge that our club opens when the greens are frozen....Seems pointless really.
With greens and fairways that hard you might as well play on concrete... :D :D

I voted for temps but to be honest I don't pay much attention to putting or even trying to get close. Its a lottery trying to get a well hit approach to react properly so I'll focus on making a good tee shot and then hitting a decent 2nd and leave it at that.

My preferred option would have been

3) Go to the range and practice

I've played a few courses where temp greens were being used and I would rather play than not. However a few courses seem to think that a temp green can just be dumped in the middle of a fairway with little thought about the length of the hole OR the standard of the temp. (Making the hole larger does not do it for me!)

As a pay and play-er, I need to have proper greens, or it aint worth my wonga.

So I'm out, I'm afraid.

Having said that, last time out they said it was pucker greens, but they sneaked a couple of temps when I wasn't looking, and the greens that did play were all within 4 - 6 feet of the front edge. And that was still worth the money and effort.

So I'm still being as contradictory as ever.

I want to play golf to a high standard and even in the winter i like the course to be reasonably like it is in the summer and going out in concrete like faiways and temps is just not proper golf and is going to do nothing more than knacker my game for the summer months!

Tend not to go out if its on temps. I cant be bothered getting the kit out and in the car etc.

Cant take alot from the practice, Had a good game at Vigs place the other day but was hitting 150 yards PW because of the bounces so seems pointless.

Would much rather spend some time on the putting green or doing some short game.

I agree with screwback on this, for me it only harms my game and when I see the temp greens I just lose interest. I have played the winter league this year for the first time. I do not think I will bother again, a good drive and then you see the temp green and my heart sinks knowing that it's that bloody small a target and the bounce can go anywhere. Then putting on it...don't get me started on that it's a lottery.

I play them only because there is no choice.
9 holes temp greens yesterday (had a 2 at a par 5 greatly shortened) and 18 today with another 2 on a rediculous temporary green. Both 2's could have ended anywhere too.
I dont take any notice of putting nor driving as the ball just skips all over the place. One thing I do watch is my low running shots, well the actual connection with the ball, it can still end up anywhere. Roll on the better weather again.

I would play on temps but frozen temps? That's another matter entirely. If the ground is just wet and the greens waterlogged then you can still play your long game and get something out of it. If everything's frozen I can't see the point
