I meant they were issued by the individual counties.
They covered the whole of England except that Cornwall and possibly Devon withdrew them for 'outsiders' during the summer holiday season.

Most clubs in Devon & Cornwall accept CC holders even in the summer but some restrictions do apply.

I thought the County Card system was run by individual counties. Where does EG come in to it?

My mistake - I meant from the County. (Been thinking of EG matters too much in recent days)

These county cards prob a stupid question are they only valid in your county or can for example I go to Hertfordshire with my Essex one

Many courses will accept a county card issued by a different county to its own.

Its not just your own county - you can use them in any county. Devon & Cornwall seem to be the oddities. Officially they dont seem to be in the scheme, but plenty folk on here have said that they've had their card accepted down there.

Other thing is that you're supposed to book in advance to use them - but again, I've had mine accepted on the day (usually when someone else did the booking)

I think you misunderstood. IG County is a phone app that allows you to have your county card displayed on your phone. I have a Sussex county card, but the IG County app does not have the option of displaying a Sussex county card, only those from several other counties.

In Northumberland you have to be over 65 to have one ☹. Is that the same in all counties?

nope
EDIT: looked a bit more. Northumberland do their own scheme for over 65s to play some courses for £10.
it’s the English County Card scheme that will be open for everyone (who is a member at a golf club)

Not everyone accepts them. Scotland don't sadly, as I'm playing eyemouth tomorrow, and neither does Magdalene Fields...this is still in negotiations with the wife. Hopefully she'll play well tomorrow and wth the forecast top notch for the week she'll be up a second game .
