I played yesterday and found that I was thinning a lot of shots. When I took my shoes off after the round I noticed there was a grain of sand in my left shoe. This would have meant my left foot was slightly higher at address than it usually is.
Would this have been the cause of me thinning a lot of shots???

So putting a grain of sand in my right shoe would have helped???

Possibly, however most pro's recommend a grain of soil rather than sand due to soils more cushioning effect over sands 'rubbing', however combining a grain of sand with some expensive golf socks should be ideal.

i have the same problem if i put the sock meant for my left foot on my right it causes me to hook the ball instead of my nice fade.

Your right Smiffy.it was the grain of sand causing the problem.
Its all about balance.
I keep reading golf is played from the ground up.
Another reason you could get unbalanced, and i know it sounds far fetched
But having bogies up your left nostril and not your right can also effect balance.
I for one always pick my nose clean before every round.

NO!

You need 2 grains of sand in your right shoe because you should be hitting down behind the ball. This will help you get weight back onto your left side promoting a more downward strike.

It is also a well known fact that surlyn covered balls don't react to spin when air pressure drops below 1020 millibars, this also makes it harder to get the ball airborne. What type of ball were you using and what were the atmospheric conditions at the time?

So this is where the saying 'Bogey Golf' comes from. I am always amazed at the solid and scientifically proven good advice on this board. Long may it continue.

Going slightly off topic I found out last week that if you put your ball on the tee with the alignment mark underneath the ball you get topspin instead of backspin, who'da thought it.
