Not a conspiracy theory, but fact, but proof the US will do whatever to get the result they want.

After WW1, the US population didn't want to be involved in any more wars, they felt they had lost to many fathers and sons, but with WW2 not looking like ending, Europe wanted the US to join the battle. The problem the US government had was the pressure from the US population not to join and it would've been political suicide to go against the population. So they had to manufacture a way in, they did this by stopping oil supplies to Japan, they simply turned the tap off. Japan was reliant on the oil for many of their manufacturing companies and production, their requests to the US to turn it on fell on deaf ears. So the Japanese tried to force the US hand by sending an ultimatum, but that arrived to late and Pearl Harbour happened. That act of war gave the US government the public backing to join WW2.

So 9/11 a contrived act by the US government or US powers that be to stay in the war on terror, may not necessarily be that contrived.
