Comp yesterday

Played yesterday in a 4 ball betterball comp.

Put on the waterproofs before we started as it was drizzling and looked threatening.
By the 3rd it started to get heavier. Teeing up on the 5th it stopped and all seemed well. Jackets were removed, wet caps taken off, good stuff.
Halfway down the 7th it started again and continued.
At the turn we had a well deserved cuppa from the hut then soldiered on.
Playing the 12th I noticed the course seemed somewhat quiet. Hardly surprising considering many wimps were crying off and walking in.
We carried on and completed our round. Not great scores, but I blame wet grips and gloves for that!

Our playing partners were 2 old boys in their 70's who carried on to finish the round, even though the rain was tipping down. Great company, with plenty of tales to tell, in short, great senior ambassadors for the game.
I just felt a bit miffed considering these 2 blokes carried on with us when much younger players were scuttling off the course and heading for the clubhouse.

It was only raining for godsake!!! Not the most pleasant of conditions I'll admit, but what the hell? Is golf not an outdoor sport?

Any spineless wimpy types walk off in your comps over the weekend?

Sorry mate wouldn't know up here in sunny Scotland. Played yesterday and today with suntan lotion on. You don't get to do that up here all that often and hear it is raining in England.

Don't take it the wrong way, I am not having a go at you. It's just not often it is raining in England and not raining here.

Same as above except im from across the pond where our saying is" Sure wouldnt it be a lovely little country if you could only roof it"

But having said that there are 2 types of golfers in my eyes.... Fair weather players and all weather players...And i for one fall into the latter........Hardy out me.......Now where did i put that brolly

We had a few walk in yesterday as well, I was having a good day so persuaded my playing partners to carry on. Thought I was in with a chance after a net 66 only to discover that someone had gone out early on when the weather was better and shot a 65...Gutted.

Never understood why people in GB take up golf if they're not prepared to play in the rain. Yes it's tough, yes it's miserable but it's the same for everyone.

We're pretty lucky down our way in that I don't think we get as much rain as some parts of the UK but I'm of the opinion that if it's safe and playable, I play.

I've played in some shocking conditions in Devon over the years but you just have to get on with it.

The only time I've ever stopped was when it was so wet the greens were just big puddles and it was impossible to putt. On one hole I had an 8 foot putt for birdie and I managed to move it about a foot it was so wet.

Played Saturday afternoon and it had rained all day. On the first tee the group in front set off with no rain wear on (it was only drizzling) by the 3rd tee they were all talking about walking in and as we reached the fourth green they had gone. We could see them walking across the fairways back to the clubhouse and they still only had shirts/sweaters on.

It doesn't cost the earth for a functional set of waterproofs and an umbrella. If it looks like rain pack them and then you're prepared. I've been in medals where its started raining and the guy marking my card has walked in because he had no brolly or waterproofs. Its a comp, make sure you are ready for anything. Nothing worse than going to a 2 ball in the middle of 3's and having to stand about in the wet because this guy was afraid of getting damp. If he'd have asked I'd have put my full waterproofs on and he could have had the brolly

Anyone walking in on our course gets a 3 comp ban. They all generally finish
