I am coming over the top - I can see my swing path etc. When I try to come from inside I just seem to block them right - any ideas on drills / problem solvers.

From the inside I must not releasing? Balls are just going 10-40 (wedge - driver) yards right of target!!

My rotation has been poor reciently and I have been working on this, but, I am sliding the hips a bit forward on the swing (rather than pure turn)- would this be the problem (getting ahead of the ball)

And before you go mad with 'Go to your pro' I did and I am booked in next week.

I'm no expert but have been having regularly lessons and making huge changes to my swing over the last 6 months and I would say the above quote is part of the problem. You shouldn't have to try to swing from the inside.

If you make a proper backswing, turning your shoulders, making sure your arms connected and make sure you transfer your weight properly, clear your hips and again stay connected on the downswing you shouldn't have to try to come from the inside, it should just happen.

The chances are if you are hitting it right then you are coming too far from the inside and not transfering your weight or clearing your left hip on the downswing. I wouldn't mind betting that if you saw a video of your swing that you right heel is still on the floor or has only just lifted off the floor at impact and that your belt buckle is pointing more out in front of you than towards the target. This will lead to either a big block out to the right or a pull hook if you get too handsy with it.

I've had both of these problems and unfortunately can't give you a quick fix. For me it's been a long hard process a a whole load of changes that I am only just now starting to feel really good about. I could list everything I've been through in the last 6 months but I really don't think it would help as your swing is likely to be very different ot mine.

All I can say is that for me I haven't had a Eureka moment and I haven't had to try especially hard to get my weight transferring correctly or clearing my left hip. It's been a series of small changes to my backswing to ensure my club and body are in the right position and from there everything else falls into place.

People rightly say that you can't hit a proper shot with bad setup and posture, what I have learned over the last 6 months is that it is equally important to be in the right position at the top of your backswing. Once you're there, as my pro keeps telling me "you just have to hit it".

Sorry if this doesn't help as you had hoped :(

IMO if you are hitting push shots when coming from the inside you are not too far away from a good swing as long as the contact is good.

Keep practising what you are doing and those pushes will start to straighten out or turn back in 'draw' once your body adjusts to the new move

One tip i use for rotation is-i set up as normal then pull my right foot back so my right toe is in line with my left heel then hit shots, its requires good rotation just to even get the club on the ball

Thanks for the info lads - You are right I am soooo close I can smell the prizes - just cant get there consitantly.

I will give that a go - sounds like a good drill.

As a side note I started with 5 4's in a row yesterday - not bad considering this includes birding the 2nd hardest hole in the course.

Make sure you complete your backswing properly, try hitting shots with your right heel off the ground 1/2 an inch (all the weight on the ball).

Amongst many other faults in my game at the moment, I too have been "coming over the top" and put most of it down to bad alignment. I am standing way too closed at address and coming over the top is the only way I can get the clubhead back to the ball. This is leading to all manner of horror shots, most notably awful blocks or slices right, lack of distance and the possibility of shank-like shots, especially on par 3's.
James (JustOne) has been trying to drill into me the feeling of standing much more open at address, aiming down the left hand side of the fairway so that I am more able to swing around myself and it does work. I hit some nice drives on Monday, with good distance. My putting stroke is something else though...
