A 36 hole comp either over 1 or two days means everyone is in with a chance in the second round rather than writing off the bottom half (wouldnt be worth the trip if they only got one round while others got two)

That's what I was trying to explain. Not sure if it came over wrong but definately 2 rounds. depending how many are interested i'm sure there would be some cracking packages for that sort of number

teetime, if you have a load of recent cards knocking about or some sort of software (ss2) based handicap worked out, im sure it would be ok.

I think that it would depend on the venue but as a lot on here are not members of clubs and so don't have official H/caps, then that needs to be a consideration, as personally I wouldn't want to exclude anyone interested.

Good shout Brendy as if someone is travelling a long way it would make sense

This sort of thing has been mentioned on here before. However, the logistics of organising a national get together seem to have been its downfall. The idea does get my full support tho.

Could always book a course for a day, throw the doors open to all GM readers and forum members GM picks the number of players possible and see who shoots the lowest score, or do this regional with top 16 going through to national comp?

What you reckon?

HOw about team events - pairs better ball stableford so that we can get as many as possible. Alternatively if it gets opened to everyone via GM how about having a halfway cut after round one and the top xx play for some form of cup and those that miss the cut have a second round for some form of plate.

As has been mentioned, this has been mentioned before and as we only had a small member of regular users, interest quickly dispearsed. However, now we have alot more regular users this could really take off. Some good ideas thrown in already and I am just about to email MikeH to see if he's interested.

I think something of this scale needs plenty of planning and would possibly be to late to happen this year. Start of next year might be an idea to give people alot of notice and get a bigger count up.

Definitly up for this and I think the regional meets will give us an idea of what to expect/prepare for.

Stay tuned people.

Sounds like a brilliant idea, I have just hosted our annual county council day and the planning was a nightmare. More than 1 person would be needed to coordinate it, if I can offer any assistance let me know, depending on where and when as I couldn't travel to far I'd love to take part. :)

Guys, this was mentioned about a year ago and there were guys up north willing to get to somewhere near Liverpool but the southerners were very cold on the idea. I am sure the old timers (birdieman, J_F, Atticus and MWJ could confirm this). It is gonna take some compromise as it would have to be accessable to ALL forum users.

Ok I have dropped MikeH a quick email asking him to drop in and check this thread out.

A neutral location is a must in my eyes and it would have to be somewhere special to make it worth the visit.

Also like the idea of somethin for the WAGS so it will be easier for all to sort a weekend away!

Madandra has a good point there, it was suggested before and people were generally very reluctant to travel.

It has to be considered that the Scottish boys are a bloody long way away from the midlands compared to the southerners. I am 1.5 hours from Brum if I stick my boot down so this is why Liverpool was suggested last time.

I am flexible on location to be honest, not scared of a drive or even a flight if required.

I can see this being a nightmare to organise but if it can be done, I am definately up for it.

Liverpool / Manchester does seem the fairest option to be honest- its pretty central between London and Glasgow. It would be very difficult to get something going this year, and next year I will be driving anyway so could well be up for it. It would be great if GM could influence the hire of one of the better known tracks for the day (Royal Birkdale anyone? ;) ) of those taking part.
