Outrageous! The stuffy (but fabulous) courses of Surrey where I was a kid (I didn't play then), tend not to require any extra joining fee. Even at a premier Birmingham course (where I used to play) they wouldn't dream of charging a long-term junior turned adult!
??? odd - some clubs want to have their cake and eat it.

Maybe its something that Golf Monthly may consider taking up as a future article, have a debate and online poll and ask clubs there reasoning for this outrageous charge that they levy onto future members.

Dave, at least one charges a second joining fee on transferring from 5-day to 7-day - and it ain't cheap - four-figures last I heard; each!
