Just about to join my first club, although played (some times badly) for many years..I would estimate handicap at around 18 :-).

With the comps, not having been a member before, do you have to apply to play or are you invited or is it just a matter of course that you can because you are a member ?..

I look forward to showing my fellow competitors the art of taking 3 to get out of a bunker !!

Mike the first board of call is getting your three handicap cards in, unless you have one being transfered from an old club. Once you get your cards you can enter what you like.

At our club we just book with members and join up with others as everyone plays in the comps, we also have special days like mixed comps and match cup/trophies where you jot your name down and it gets drawn.

Btw welcome to the forum and enjoy.

Similar at our place. Get 3 cards in, signed by other members, to get your official handicap.

Then you can enter club comps. We just have a sign up sheet at reception, so we just put our names down and then a few days before the comp they publish the tee times on the notice board.

The other thing our place does is you have to have played in 3 comps before you are entitled to win anything. Oh and play min of 5 comps a year after that to maintain your handicap.

At my club you need 3 cards 1 signed by a committee member to get your handicap. All weekend competitons are drawn (your name needs to be on the sheet in the bar by Thursday lunchtime). Wednesday competitions you just turn up and play with whoever you like so long as a member signs your card.

At my club you can play away, and then get your cards for H`cap (3)only then you can play in comps,we have a time sheet in operation where you put your name were it suits yourself(this is good and bad you find alot of 4 balls stay together and play at the same time each week)

but good luck and make the most of it

3 out of a bunker you must be playing or scr
