Played in my first ever club championship final today, an endurance test of 36 holes in 32degrees heat! That's if the thermometer at the club is correct!

First round was a disgrace, couldn't find a fairway, could not hole a putt or even endanger a green with an approach shot! In all 4 double bogies, a triple and just scraped an 89 nett 79, for a worst ever competition score.

Had lunch, shower then back on first tee thinking I'm not looking forward to this and already feeling like I'd be the one propping up the whole field! Then first tee shot long and straight, I was a touch shocked at that! Ended up missing only 1 fairway, making 6 bogies and 2 birdies, for a PB score of 4 over par 75 nett 65! I holed everything and hit nearly every shot as good as I ever have!

So it'll be 0.1 back for the morning round and a nice healthy cut for the afternoon.

Still can't figure out how 2 rounds in one day can be so vastly different, I mean that's a difference of 14 shots in 1 day! How?

Very strange game is Golf!

It was more of a case of feeling can't be any worse than the 1st round, but everything clicked in the afternoon that didn't in the morning. Still scratching my head now! No chance of winning even the nett but happy I ended on a high rtaher than a massive cricket score.

I played our 36 hole champs today well played is a loose term I can beat your worst ever comp score but not once twice absolute disgrace really a 96, 91 off 10. (Now 11 arrgh!)
Home gutted spend weeks earning brownie points to leave wife and little lad on own all day to produce that sort of rubbish!!
Glad you sorted it out in afternoon great score and nice cut!
Well played mate

1st round- nerves, tension, anxiety, negative thoughts

2nd round- no expectation so less tension.

Lesson there methinks.

Similar to me, was at the range on Friday and couldnt hold the club (felt all wrong) couldnt hit the ball with irons or woods, then played in a Comp yesterday and sunk 23 putts ober 18 holes. and for 16 holes have not played as well for years.

Just because you play well one day doesn't automatically mean you'll play well next time and vice versa.

14 shots in one day? Pah that's nothing!
I managed to do 14 points difference on the front and back 9s today! Played the same hit the ball what felt like the same yet a vastly different outcome. Went out in a very impressive *cough* 11 points and came in with a stunning 25 points.

I had a very similar experience this weekend also but the other way round

Played in our Club Championship yesterday - same format 18 holes morning / 18 holes afternoon.

My first round was decent - very decent other than a mess up on a par 4 where I took a 9!! (OOB from the tee and then hit a bridge and cannoned OOB also as I went for the green) Still ended up 2 off the leading score with that disaster on my card and a small cut to boot

Lunch and my playing partners were bigging me up and saying they were playing with the winner. Trying desperately to play it down and hold my nerve but lost it in the afternoon session.

After a birdie to start the round it all went wrong and I was miles out of the running. Tired arms and legs and poor strategy decisions after 8 hours in the sun!

Still a great day and a small progresion to my HC target for the year but still a lot to do to get it!

Well the results are in, thanks to my 2nd round managed to finish litterally slap bang in the middle of the field for the Medallist Steer Cup event (the handicap champion) and not on the bottom of the pile in the Club Championship (Scratch Champion).

All in all despite the horrific round 1 where I gained 0.1 back, I managed to get a healthy overall cut thanks to round 2 to get me back down to 9 (9.1 to be exact), so all in all not a bad day really.
