"none of you're fancy Nordmann Fir, they can't be grown in our climate anyway."

So the Nordmann is another alien to our shores.

I can see the current beau of HTL having a surprise on CHristmas Day when there is no pressie in her stocking. Mind you I think he has a point. Without kids the whole thing is a pure marketing scam and tbh as long as HID and I have a decent Christmas dinner and spend some quality time together we don't need to go mad on pressies or the hype. Even worse when you can't drink and watching everyone else getting tanked at the pub or company do's

Sorry DCB I wasn't clear there, they are grown in significant numbers in the UK but they wont grow up with me, late frosts do for them. I meant my local climate.

The bulk of Nordmanns which have, I think, a 70%+ market share in the UK come over on boats from Denmark. The Danes are big suppliers in Europe.

i'm with HTL.

If you've got young kids, fine

i HATE Christmas and all the commercialism that goes with it. Gone are the family Christmas' that we used to have when it wasn't about having the best of this latest of that.

My other half will probably put the tree up around 15th if it was up to me, it would go up in flames.

Yes I am a miserable owd b'std.

Give me an orange, bag of nuts and a meccano.

oh, and alcohol!!!

We've got a 6 foot fibre optic tree which goes up about the middle of December. Had it a few years now but it's looking a bit worse for wear now since the missus threw it at me last boxing day. :(

Beat that Tiger

I hate the 3 weeks before the day itself. HID gets too stressed about things tht really don't matter and it gets my goat!!

Ban Christmas until 20th December!!

artificial and she's already put it up, though that's mostly due to work commitments - hers.

I'm in the cancel christmas camp - stuck in, worst tv of the year, thank god for our collection of alcoholic beverages.

keep trying to persuade her to head for a hot beach instead but now she's got her own kids out they keep bringing back theirs.

Proof, if proof were needed, that the Ascot driving range is actually closed on Christmas day.
:D

Oh and a big false one for us, although it's the closest looking thing to a real one I've ever seen.
Trouble is, there is now a massive sub woofer sitting where it normally sits so I think it's either going to be relegated to the dining room or we don't put one up this year.

I've been told our 6 foot artificial one is going up on Saturday. Its my job to get it off the wardrobe on the spare room and then I'm to leave it to HID (hands of an expert or so she says). Fine by me I'll slope upstairs and watch the sport on tv

I like real ones myself. Was always part of crimbo to go down with me dad and choose a tree, and then carry it home on his shoulders cos it wouldn't fit in the car. Learnt how to get a good balanced tree back then and always do the same now. Did buy a nice artificial one when I was living in Japan as they don't do Christmas. This year we'll be in Japan so won't be doing Christmas. My nine year old disagrees with me and is convinced Santa does go to Japan and will visit his grandparents house. Depends how much he can fit in his suitcase without it getting spotted :). Otherwise, Santa will have to follow plan B.

excert from sons letter sent to Santa

.......by the way, I'll be in Japan this year, so if you could please leave my presents by my bedroom door, I'll get them when I come back.......
