christmas is nearly hear when did it lose its meaning

I use Christmas to treat the people nearest me - my loved ones and friends

Spoil them as much as possible - eat lots of good food surrounded by those loved ones , having fun with new presents , playing games , watching crappy telly.

Certainly don't celebrate any bloke being born ( or not born ) thousands of years ago.
Spot on mate:thup: merry Xmas

Doesnt have to be the same thing for everyone ,
if you believe , then believe in what makes it special for you , if you dont believe then celebrate it in your own way ..
make it the best it can be for you and yours , have a thought for and try help some others out if you can...

most know my stance on beliefs and religion on here but respecting others has to be top whether you believe in a faith or not

In response to Marks OP i think its just as times got better through the years people had more & were able to give more , advertising and commercialism took hold and as with most things it went from one extreme of not much to the other extreme of having too much

Happy Christmas

This, I think...

Usually just the wife and I saw we don't go mad and just enjoy the day together. This year we've had the outlaws over for the first time in recent memory. They usually go to their other daughter in San Diego but the MIL had a triple bypass and a few complications and it was a pleasant day without running a huge debt or going too mad. First Chrimbo in a brand spanking new build house so it has had a special feel of its own anyway. To me it hasn't felt special for many years for so many reasons... starting the hype in October, nursing my mother, everyone seemingly in a rush and so rude, and the whole commercialisation of the whole thing. Where have simple family values gone?

Christmas is nearly here, fridge full of basically food that is going to increase your cholesterol, people running up massive debt, children spoilt rotten with so much toys and gadgets it almost seem wrong!! where did it lose it meaning of the birth of christ. now its just i want i want i want...... Is it only me that thinks this way??

doesnt sound very Christian to me, to sit around judging other people.
I thought the bible says you shouldn't judge others or they will judge you!

Merry Christmas and I hope everyone is very happy with the presents they gave to others and that those people were pleased to receive them

HID and I on our own today for the first time we can remember. Cooked a duck, had a bottle of champers and had a thoroughly enjoyable day together. Tomorrow we've got son and his girl friend and the two gorgeous grand children, really looking forward to that too!

Thats good for you. I hope you don't resent people that do believe (in that person you cant even name) celebrating their Christian beliefs.

Oh! and if was a similar thread about Muslim belief would you use the same put down about their prophet ? I somehow doubt it as it seems OK to put down Christianity but completely different with Islam.

Why would I resent people who want to celebrate their beliefs whatever religion they chose ? I may think it's all a lot of utter nonsense but that doesn't mean everyone has too.

You seem to be aiming a few accusations at me

I don't give a monkeys about religion - I think it's all made up nonsense with make believe people regardless of what their name is or what religion it is

It's all as believable as the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny as far as I'm concerned

But if other people want to believe in religion then they are more than willing

You seem to lack respect for others beliefs and label them as idiots. It would do you more credit to explain your own belief and leave others to theirs without suggesting they are fruitcakes.

I havent labelled anyone an idiot nor have I suggested anyone is a fruit cake

Religion and people's interpretation of the thing have been at the centre of the majority of the worlds problems IMO and I have seen the devastating effects when people use religion and "god/Mohammed's" way to cause harm.

"It's all as believable as the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny as far as I'm concerned " When you said this were you not suggesting these people are idiots?

These World problems are not created by religion at all, they are created by Man, their religions tell them that war is wrong but they use it to further their own ends. If people were really true to the teachings of their religions then there would be less conflict in the world. Human nature is the cause of these atrocities.

Phew, thought he was gonna say santa as well there for a minute....he ate all his mince pies and Whisky last night, so it must be true.

The dog has been sick all day today though.

I happen to share this view and would add the fact that religion has been the method that the hierarchy has controlled the masses for centuries. Using the " if you don't do what has been written, you will not go to a better place when you die" is a wonderful way to ensure that people are frightened to step out of line.

I'm sure wars would occur without religion but it's easy to find a " just " cause if you cite religious differences. Add to that the "god" of your choice created the world, in spite of the evidence that the world evolved, and then claim that you can believe in both is pure nonsense to me.

Finally, if there is a God, which one amongst all the various religions is the real one?

Liverpoolphil comes in for some stick for his views but on this matter I am very much with him - I don't have a problem if anyone is a believer but I retain the right to think religion is nonsense!
