Cheltenham festival

Whenever we go we dont start drinking til about 4ish, Cheltenham isnt about drinking.

Racing 1st, drinking 2nd, sore head and light pockets 3rd !

We arrive for 2/3 guiness in the village pre-racing, but once the racing starts we are around the parade ring and the club stand watching and betting. May grab 1 or 2 during the races, but the evening only really starts when we land in town for a meal and then start the evening racing!

It has got more boozy, the main bars are rammed all day with little movement even when the races are on. I remember going and they used to empty out for every race, not any more. But I guess that is just society, less people pace themselves and more just go mad from the get go.

Just arrived at my hotel and awaiting the taxi to the course, the excitement is building. Love the 1st race 1st day roar!

1.30 - Fakir D’Oudairies 13/2
2.10 - Us and them - 14/1 ew
2.50 - Beware the bear 14/1 ew
3.30 - Apple's Jade @ 2/1
4:10 - Bernie Des Dieux @ 11/10
4.50 - Shady Operator @ 14/1 ew
5.30 - Skipthecuddles @ 40/1 ew (been tipped this, can't see why but having a nibble!)

Have to assume the goings getting softer and softer

Little of great appeal to me today so will avail the bookies of a few of their special offers. Main interest are Hardline in the 210 and Tower Bridge in the 450

Mrs MM on the winner and I had the 2nd EW. A real saver.

Fortunately Mrs MM's bets are placed through my account!

Followed up with the winner of the Mares.

After the first three races it was getting desperate and yet it ended up as a very decent day.

Expect we will end up giving it all back to the bookies over the rest of the week.

Car crash day, cant believe BDD fell when clear, she looks a very claasy mare.

when you back 2 horses (win only), they finish 1st and 2nd at 16s and 20s and you dont want to know what the fc paid lol

Very very very very bad mistake to make. Always got to forecast when you back 2 in same race. Here endeth the 1st and last lesson. Go forth young man and bash those bookies

you have traders who have an opinion? cant work for any of the high street shysters then lol

Nah, online only. To be fair, I’ve no clue about this horse racing business but it is fascinating coming in to work and everyone wishes you a “happy Cheltenham” rather than saying good morning.

I only saw a very lengthy email from them this morning with what looked like tips, but moved on quickly. Might have another look tomorrow and go for the Skybet offer though and pick a horse with a funny name.

I don't follow racing but am in Worcester this week for work and the prices of hotels are extortionate, if you can get one. I do feel for anyone who attends these events as they have to pay through the nose for the hotels before they even get through the gate. Tonight I'm stopping in Oldbury as that's the nearest place I can get at a "reasonable" rate.

My neck of the woods, that's crazy that you've had to stay that far out.
